Is it possible to release some of the pressure out of the valve on the resivor or will this messup the shock? The shock is a little too stiff.
Its a Cusom Axis dual rate shock.....

There was a thread on this, Do Not bleed any pressure out. Their has got to be a way to soften your rebound and damping. Dont mess with your Axis. Im not familiar with those, but Ill bet their are a lot of people on here who have them. If you bleed any of the gas out, the shock will react very different from what it should, if you cant get where you like it, have a Pro Re-valve it for your weight and riding style.

or just try adjusting your spring

Turn the preload ring (very top ring) on the rear shock counter-clockwise, this will soften up the rear shock.
Do not take any pressure out of the resevoir. Either turn the compression knob to a lower number or take preload out of the rear spring like previously suggested. On a Freeflow shock like axis opening the rebound will open the compression and make the shock softer but this adjustment is very small. from there the only adjustment you have are either going internally or a softer spring.
Also don't just go to a lighter spring. Your spring is there to give you the static sag and race sag that you want. If both of those settings are good but you still have a issue with too stiff or too soft then you have no choice but to revalve it. You should remember that rebound valving is effected by spring force. Too little of spring force with the original valving will make the suspension still feel stiff.

if you were to let some nitrogen out of a custom axis shock and you left to much out it would cause the shock to cavatate meaning the oil would turn into a foam substance.
