I have a 2000 400 and i have been messin with the jetting for a while now. I have a fmf pipe but i only run it at the dunes, my stock pipe stays on there about 75% of the time and i dont want to have to change jets back and forth. I have a 148 in it right now which i think is stock and i have a UNI air filter and my bike is throwing alot of black smoke and its runnin like *****. I have tried taking my airbox lid off to lean it out but it didnt work and i have tried a 165 and a 142 jet but neither work, what is the best thing to do for my problem?

clean + re-oil the filter.. then go from there.. nobody can really give you a definate answer because every motor likes what it likes.. trying different setups is probably the best way to go..

I'm running the stock foam filter / fmf PCIV-Q / hi-comp stock bore piston / xr camshaft..

155mj, needle clip dropped one notch, 42 pilot, and the thing has never ran better..
