difference in 99-02?

Well I have a buddy and he is going to buy a 400. He asked me if there was any diff. in the models?(besides color and graphics)The reason for asking is because I couldnt answer it.

Only cosmetics (plastic color & graphics) other than that they are all clones.

That's not entirely true. I own one of each and there are a couple of other differences that I have noticed. For one, the carb on the newer models has a slightly different vent hose layout. I don't know if this leads to any performance improvements or not but you can easily see the difference if you compare the two. Another difference is that my '02 has a splash guard that covers the battery and electronics. I've also noticed some differences in the welds on the frame but I'm not sure if that's intentional or just a production variance.

Correct me if Im wrong but didn't the '99 which was the first year have some of those ifrst year problems? Im not totaly sure what was went wrong with them but if someone can post what problems if any they had.
