I just installed a xr 400 cam and a je 416 piston. The valves are floating out before the rev limiter is kicking in. Any ideas? :(
How do you know the valves are floating before the rev limiter? Maybe you are just hitting the limiter easier with the new cam...

I am only alittle of 3/4 throttle. When a rev limit kicks in, it will retard the timing, which makes the motor miss. When valves float out they do not miss. It feels like you just ran out of gas.
Explain a little more in detail exactly what you are feeling....sounds to me like you might be running out of gas literally...(ie jetting issue in carb).

I seiously doubt your valves are floating...
If your running the stock cdi, there are guys turning 2-3k more rpms than you on a regular basis without any valve 'float'..
Best to start looking at other possiblities..
What's your jetting at?

I have a 162 jet, 42 pilot, K&N needle/ Filter, Gabes mods to silencer, and no air box. I feels like it runns out of gas at high rpms.

162 main, sounds like you are running out of gas. I don't have the 416 or cam and I run a 165. I think you need to seriously bump up you main jet.
Just my thought...
