I gotta a freshly rebuilt 200 4 stroke Honda. It is smoking real bad. Whitish smoke. If the piston rings were put in upside down, could this cause it to smoke? Compression is great. Runs good, just smokes BAD. It was bored .020 over with new pison and rings. Will a rich conditon cause this white smoke? It is also leaking what appears to be gas or oil leaking from the head pipe/muffler union. Looks more like oil but I can't really tell. Helppppp..

Thanks
Bart

well i would say that it needs broken in, but could you explain this leak a little better?

Did you have a valve job done? Cause after a fresh 3-5 angle valve job the quad will smoke a little, not much tho. If the piston rings were put in up side down go on ahead and order a 426 kit (.120 over) or a 440 kit cause that will destroy a sleeve.

the white smoke could be a lean condition, not rich. check the plus, you might be lean, and that will blow up the motor if it's bad. did you do anything else like pipe and filter or did you just do the motor stuff??? and have a pipe already. what jetting are you running?

If it is pooring white smoke on a fresh rebuild then I will bet the rings are upside down.:( They are not scraping the oil from the cylinder walls

My 330 blew blue smoke real bad when I first put in the big bore. It would smoke real bad for about a minute or 2 after startup, then it would go away until I let it sit overnight and started it again. Maybe it just needs broken it:confused:  .

Does it quit smoking after a couple of minutes? If so your valve stem seals are cracked and need to be replaced ASAP!!!

Aye, hondardr4life needs his valve seals replaced is all he needs. ;) The oil from the head is very slowly dripping into the engine and puddling up on the piston until it burns off. Then when sitting overnight it builds up again.
