Most of you are probably wondering what the big deal is with this post, but my UPS man made me very happy yesterday. These are pics of the new tank for my 86 restoration project 250R. According to my parts supplier, this is the LAST known new red 250R tank anywhere (unless some dealer has one sitting on their shelf collecting dust). It was sent back to one of the Honda warehouses as part of a dealer inventory reduction return. I just happened to have the right person looking for it, and luckily I got it. For me, this thing is like the "Holy Grail" of 250R parts, and I finally got my hands on it! :D

Rich,
Maybe you could help me find my holy grail. I've been looking for
a new stock seat for my 88.

I've had requests for '88 seats in the past. As I'm sure you know, the original red seat, and even the OEM replacement cover has been discontinued. I think Honda still has new seats, but they come with a black cover. This is the case with any 250R tank that you order now, they come black. I check ebay twice daily for NOS or like new parts and the last NOS '88 seat sold for over $600. I also watch Walneck's classic motorcycle magazine, they have a good classified section. They list alot of overseas dealers with rare hard-to-find parts. A British or Austrailian Honda dealer may be able to help you in your search, but the price may set you back quite a bit.

I think thats the seat I was watching last fall, the bids exploded the last 10 min.

I'd be willing to give 350.00 for a nos seat, but 600.00 wow!

Thanks for the offer Brokeitin, I'll keep it in mind.

The first thing I ran into was the black seats, then I saw a tank on Ebay for an ATC. It was still in the original box, with a newer Honda part number. Anytime Honda makes a change like this, it will be reflected in the last digits of the part number. When I was looking for this tank, all of the original part numbers from the microfiche, no matter what color or year, superseded over to one number. I had this number checked at the Honda warehouses and every tank was black. I suppose this is a cost cutting measure by Honda. :grr:

That's awesome and kinda sad Honda is no longer making a lot of these parts. I have a 1985 ATC250R, it's in great condition and all original. It has just about perfect plastic with decals, perfect original seat and original tires. Sucks if anything happens to it I'll be SOL on replacement parts.
