I havent bought tires and rims for a bit, I have a question on bolt patterns.

IS the fronts 4/144??? Or a 4/110???
also, I have a 2/4 offset rim I need to take off and put on a stock width since I now have +3 aArms... IS the frons suposed to be a 4/1 offset or 3/2 ??? Im just trying to keep it as close to stock so Im not too wide. Thanks for your help!

The rear on a 400 is 4/110 so I guess the front is 4/144 and I am not sure on the offset.

QJ, the front offset should be 3/2 from the factory. With the +3 a-arms you will probably want to run 4/1 rims. To bad its not a Yammie you could run Troy's fronts. Factory for the pred is 4/1, but its a 4/156 bolt pattern.

Factory offset on 400ex front rims are 1.5/3.5

and they are 4/144

go with the 4/1 offset for the best handling

The fronts aren't 4/110, are they? I know the rears are but I don't think the fronts are.

RMATV told me the fronts were 4/144 I was so sure it was 4/100 all the way around  They reccomended 3/2 but I thought a 4/1 would be best.

Can you all tell me what the difference in handling would be between a 4/1 and 3/2?? Im a little rusty on this ...

Difference would be more in the amount of bump steer that you get, because the cnter line of the tire would be closer to the pivots of the suspension with the 4-1 wheel you would have less bump steer, while the actual quad is somewhat narrower, opposite is true for 3-2

If your running +3 arms.. get 4/1 front rims for sure. Easier to steer and less "feedback" because the center of the tire is over the spindle pivot points. You won't get arm pump as fast. ;)

Even with the Damper cranked all the way up its still not enough to my likings for sand riding and thats w/ a 3/2 offset wheel.:ermm: I cant even imagine what it would be like with a 2/4 offset one! :huh lol

I accidently posted this in somone else thread....

as long as we are not going WIDER is fine, my ole man doesnt understand the whole offest thing. hes unclear on the difference between a 3/2 and a 4/1. hes thinkgin the 4 is gonna make me 4 inches WIDER vs. a 3. Can someone be more detailed on the differences, maybe give me a link to a thread that als omay have some diagrams or something so I can better explain it to him. Thanks!!

The first number is the inside measurement and the second number is the outside measurement.

I'll let you use my 4/1 Hipers if you want:) They will make it narrower;)

This may help......

First rim is 2/3 off set, second is stock, roughly 3/2 (there's a 1/2" in there somewhere) last is a 4/1 offset.

I understand it somewhat now If I can explain it better to Troy...

I know my Kids 2/4 offset the inside of the wheel sticks out quite abit more than my 3/2 offset does.

I ordered a set of wheels today ;) but they were just plain ole .190Douglas for the front :ermm:

I would have much rather had a full set of these personally...

hehe I meant a 4/1 (my bad)

a 4/1 offset will reduce feedback.
4" inside; 1" outside

less feedback leverage than a 3" inside; 2" outside wheel.

Actually a 4/1 has almost no feedback at all.

So its a 1/4 offset not a 4/1 offset I should be ordering??? :huh Man, I hope he didnt screw up my order yesterday.... :grr:

It's actually not complicated. The first number is the inside, the second number is the outside. Add them both together, and you get the total width.

So a 4/1 is 5 inches wide (add them together), with 4 inches on the inside, and 1 inch on the outside.

A 3/2 is the same rim width, but with only 3 inches inside, and 2 inches outside. This will make your total front end wider, but it will be slightly more difficult to turn, and more feedback to the bars when you hit a rock or hole.

A 4/1 offset has almost no feedback to the bars, since the center of the wheel is almost directly in line with the pivot point of the spindle.

Stock front bolt pattern for Honda is 4/144, the rear is 4/110. The exception is the 1987 TRX250X, it has both front at rear at 4/110.

bwamos posted a very nice diagram in the other thread. I'll repost it here, but credit goes to him.

While we are on the topic, I have +2 a arms on my 250r, I ride mostly trail, and will race MX sometimes too, do I want 3/2, or 4/1?

This is somewhat how I was explaing it to him, I guess hearing it feom someone else helps sometimes. ;)
Its nice for a change teaching HIM something ! :D ;)

well, apparently Douglas doesnt make a 4/1 offset in a .190 wheel, I guess only the beadlocks:ermm: So Im stuck w/ a 3/2 for my fronts.

I would have LOVED a set of Bajas for the duning tires, but I have to be conservativeon the funds since its for vacation at the dunes... :)

thanks for all your help!!!
