Well, imo, both are good. With the z400 or kfx 400 you have reverse though unless you buy a new 400ex and then you will also have reverse. I think bone stock the 400ex is balanced better and isn't near as tipsy when you try sliding. Also seems like used parts, exhaust, etc., are easier to find for the ex and are cheaper. jmo

yup, same chassis and stuff, just new plastic and reverse gear, IMO id go with an EX too, very reliable, and easy to mod!

well seems to me, that everyone who has a 400ex is saying get one of those and just doesnt like the z or kfx. if you look at the specs and what not, new, the z400 is a better machine. liquid cooling, better suspension, and it handles and is just as reliable as the 400ex.its a little faster than the ex but that doesnt really matter. if your buying used, youll also have reverse too which is handy sometimes. there are plenty of mods out for the z400 as there are the 400ex, and from what ive herd the suzuki responds to mods better than the ex(but i dont know this for a fact) in my opinion the suzuki is a better machine but everyone is different and has thier thoughts.

You want an unbiased opinion? I ride a 2 stroke tecate but have riden the z400 and the ex400, Neither will hang with my tecate 4 so I don't favor ether of the 2 but the z400 has a more powerful engine than an ex400. It takes a 440 kit in the ex400 to even hang with a stock z400 or kfx400. Its mostly do to the dual overhead cam. also about 10 year of more modern technology. I'm sure I just light the fuse on a riot, I really like the ex400 and if I had the chance to buy one I probably would, You can get them cheap and parts are everywhere. But they don't have the power that the z400 does. Also the reason they are tippy as opposed to the ex400 it a simple matter of different tires. Honda had the best radials on the market. suzuki didn't, put the same tires on them and the suzuki may handle a tad better than the ex400, I don't know. Use the kawasaki mojave and honda's trx250 for example. The dual overhead cammed engine in the mojave will walk all over the single cammed trx250 even though they have the same cc's, hell its (the mojave) almost faster than an ex300. Most guys on this site will disagree and its mostly because they still want their ex400 to be the bad boy, Its still a great quad and can be built to run with the best of them but times have changed and the competition has passed it.

Well I have the 400ex and Id rather have the z400 they look cooler and are the better bike as far as speed i think the 400ex has less that can break but I think the 400ex is more reliable. However If I had to pick again. It would definitely be the z400 over the z because I favor the better technolgy offered in the z

there both great machines that have there flawes (if any). the ex is a simple air cooled engine that will last a long time. its a good handling quad and has a good amount of power, and parts are cheap and easy to find. the z/kfx are faster than the ex and are just as durable. they have a liquid cooled engine in them, so you dont really have to worry about over heating. i think the z you need to adjust valves a little more often, someone correct me if im wrong. probly all personal preference though.

depends on if ur riding it stock or if ur modding it.. also i like the ex but imo i like the 450r's better because once u get a 400 ur going to wanna go bigger. atleast what ive done.. i had a 250ex kept it for 6 months got a 400ex and another year or less i got a 450r.

I have a EX 400, and a Raptor, I have never woned a KFX 400, but i can tell you stock for stock the KFX kicks the EX's but in every aspect. The EX is a very reliable, but outdated machine, no liquid cooling, and less desrible suspension than the KFX. The EX is a proven machine that has passed the test of time, yet the KFX has 8 years of technology on it. If both bikes are the same price, hands down I would go with the KFX. Just to get the EX to keep up with a stock KFX you would have to get a pipe, jet kit, and remove the air box, so your looking at 600 or more in mods to make it perfrom as well as the Kawi does in stock form. I know a lot of people here here will get mad at me for saying it, because this is a honda forum for the most part, but its true... I often wish my EX were a KFX... A liquid cooled engine will out last a air cooled enigine by far, no contest there. The cooler a engine can ran the more reliable its goning to be.
