I have a black lab and hes like 12 years old and yesterday and today he has been throwin up alot. Its like every few minutes he will start heavin and sometimes he wont throw anything up, but when he does throw somethin up, its like a thick white liquid. Im gettin kinda worried cuz he's still doin it today, could he just have a stomach virus? What do you guys think

Did he eat anything that he shouldn't have that you know of, antifreeze, rat poison?

Old dog - throwing up - sounds like kidney failure. That's how my dog died......she started throwing up and couldn't keep any liquids in her - couldn't pee.....she started going quick. Get him to a vet asap! Better to be over careful - at the very least your dog will need to hydrate if he can't keep anything down!

Thats what our dog is doing, he can't seem to keep food down though. Sometimes his pee is normal too....We took him to the doctor and they couldn't really find anything wrong, he seems to be holding stuff down ok today, He is 11, but i hope he lives for a bit longer, my step mom is so attached to that dog :ermm: Hes a really awesome dog

my dad called the vet and he said he could either have somethin lodged in his throat, or have some sort of cold or somethin. And my dad checked his throat and their was nothin in it. But the vet said if he was acting normal, other then the hurling....like if he was still eating, and acting excited to see ppl and stuff, then he said their is probably nothin wrong with him.....but im still kinda worried. I'll try to get my dad to take him to the vet soon

Put it down, not trying to be a dick or anything but 12 is old for a dog, don't make it suffer.

Yea, that's like saying if there is a 80 year old perfectly healthy person that you should just put them to sleep. I know people in their 80's that look not a day over 50 and are healthier than most people in their 30's.

Wow I wouldn't want to be an animal in your household if thats the way you look at things.

There does come a point when a dog may be suffering so much it is the humane thing to do.:(

To compare it to euthanasia is a bit of a stretch, unless of course the dog isnt noticeably suffering. You will be able to tell when treatment isnt enough and then maybe have to make the decision to put him down.

You always have to use discretion when dealing with old pets, but its always better to err on the side of caution, get him to the vet, and get him better!

Has your dog been to a kennel lately? He might have Kennel cough. Our dog got that even though she had her shots its kind of a cough cough and blak...sudzy cream fluid.

I would take your dog in for a check up just in case if they haven't been to a kennel

yah for real, the vet said my lab is really healthy, and u can tell. He acts like he's real young, and wants to run around and play and stuff. He's a trooper thou, he's never really been sick, he just had a tumor removed off his paw last year, and he's recovered perfectly. He's just lazy sometimes lol

I misread what he typed i was under the impression that the thing wasn't showing signs of getting better and in that case i meant don't wait till you have to find your dog in your backyard stiff as hell (happened to my old doberman when he was 11) Gradually showed signs of aging and one day bloated up really bad must have been a horrible way to go felt bad that i couldn't have taken him in to get the shot.

i think he's pretty much all fine now, its been days since he's been heaving, he's just letting out a small cough every now and then....still playful as hell tho:D
