I found some Mobil 1 Red Cap 15w-50 fully synthetic oil at PEP boys...is this the stuff that everyone runs? Or is this the new stuff that isn't good for clutches? Please let me know. If it is the correct stuff, I'd like to go buy all of it.

I thought I read somewhere that the new synthetic stuff was gold cap...is this right?

I just need to make sure before I spend me money on it.

Thanks
Justin

idk man, seems to me like people are saying that isnt any good anymore but im not too sure. i was looking at Mobil 1 MX4T. that seems to me like it would be pretty good stuff. this site says it has no friction modifiers. idk what does everyone else think?

Couldn't tell ya about the new stuff out, but I heard a little while back that the red cap was being discontinued, so I went to K-Mart and bought 16 quarts of what they had left. That'll keep me good for a little while.

some of the stores will still have the old stuff in stock. if it is the old stuff, it will be 15w-50. also, it will NOT have 5000 or 7500 stamped on the front. the gold cap is what replaced the old red cap

So this is the right stuff? It was Mobil 1 Red Cap 15w50 Fully Synthetic..I saw the gold cap close to it...and I also saw the 5000 mileage stuff. I guess I should go buy it?

You are right. The new Mobil 1 oil has moly in it EVEN the oil intended for motorcycle use has trace amounts. This is, of course, the NEW Mobil 1 stuff i'm talking about here. The old 15w50 Red cap does not have moly in it.
I bought a whole bunch of the old 15w50 that I could find and when I'm all out of that i'm running Shell Rotella-T 5w40 fully synthetic. It's one of the best synthetics out there, no moly and no friction modifiers. You can find it at Walmart :)
