As promised, here are some updated pics of my 250R restoration project. Since I last posted pics I have completed the exhaust, the entire rear brake system is done. NOS caliper, disc (the last oem Honda available), parking brake cable, and hose. The electrical system is done. I hunted high and low for a new headlight case, but couldn't find one. I found the best used one I could get my hands on and put some really good plastic polish to it. It came out alot better than I expected. Front bumper and bumper skid are installed, as are the rear grab bar and NOS toolbox. The fuel tank that is on it in the pics is not the tank that is staying on it. After some begging and pleading with my parts supplier, they found an NOS red tank that was returned to one of the Honda warehouses as part of a dealer stock return. I should have the tank in hand Monday or Tuesday. It was just dumb luck that I was able to get a red tank, since all Honda offers now is black. I have some more work to do on the front end, such as find another set of control arms, and get them powder coated and fitted with new Honda bushings. If you look closely at the pics, you'll see a small ding in the right lower control arm. Other than that, and a few more new nuts and bolts, it will be time to put all the new plastic on. I'll post more pics when it's complete. Hope you enjoy! :D

WOW just wow. Is red or white plastic going on it?

It's an '86, so it will get white plastic, with a red hood, tank, and seat. I've had the plastic and OEM Honda decals for about five years, now I finally get to put it on.

You must have $10k in that thing!! It is really nice...
I have two 88's, both stock with little ride time. They both show signs of wear, but have never been redone. I often wondered how much $$ it would take to restore to new. Did you see the 88 on ebay a few months ago that sold for $12K? It was restored to new like yours.

I think finding some of the parts was the most difficult. There's alot more discountinued parts than people think. There's just a few that I have not been able to get, but they are very small items that I don't think anybody would notice. But I will keep looking, because to me, the quad just won't be complete until I have those little items.

Where is that R going? The Smithsonian? Very nice, if you like an all stock R, and I do. What parts are you missing? I may have them.

When I had Honda check their warehouse stock, that was the last rear disc that came up anywhere, and I believe they check all nationwide warehouses. This was also the case with the tank I got a few weeks ago. Items like this most likely will not be produced again since there isn't much demand.
