Well i was happy when i bought the new 05 black 450r and even more excited to ride it in trails and some tracks in my friends backyard. i have to admit it is fast but handling is awful it is so tippy and the *** end it all over the place in whoop sections ...i hate to say it but im definetly trading it in this week to get an 05 yfz 450

put smaller rear tires and it wont do that as bad in the whoops. Worked for me.

you cant get a stock quad then expect it to handle like a modded one...not gunna happen.

get the c/d racing rear revalve, that will stop the bucking.... Smaller MX tires also helps on a track.

I thought it felt a little "tippy" too. After the first ride I dropped the preload down pretty much all the way lowering the ride height. It made a big improvement. Since, I have added front shock, linkage, & rear revalve.

have fun on the yamihahaha :ermm: maybe you wont like the seat and you could trade it in for a honda recon which probably suits you better anyway;)

Well thats because your coming off a 300ex dude, with you say a 330 kit of something. You cant expect to ride a 450 like you ride your quad...a quad that takes no skill to ride. :grr:

No a good choice dude, yes the yfz is faster out of the box.

But the honda handles better then any other stock bike, imo, and the rearend can be fixed esay. The honda has much more aftermarket support, and less faliures (that I know off). Personally coming from a 400ex, the 450r is worlds better. The 300ex is a entry level quad, maybe you should think about the 400ex or ltz400 if your not ready for a 450.

Congratulations!! I'm not sure what the point of your thread is, but whatever. My suggestion would be to perhaps stop by your local supermarket and pick up a tube of vagisil, thay will most likely cure your ailment :macho .

If you stop drinking a case of beer before you go ride, it is not tippy at all.

sounds like user error!

So what is your point? You can admit it the 450r is to much for you and you probably wont be able to handle the yamaha either.
Go with a 400ex till you are ready for a mans bike.

So are you saying a 400 isn't a man's bike? So do yout honestly think a 450 just kills a 400 or do you just hump on whatever has more cc?

Don't get all butt hurt about what he said. He's trying to make a point to this guy. His thread is pointless, there is no use to it. I hope you don't take everything so personal, could make for a stressful life......

wow one ride on a new quad and he's made his mind...wow i wonder what he's going to do when the yfz does the same thing... have fun buddy...your just going to put out more money on the trade in

i ride a yfz450 and i can tell you it swaps around in the whoops from time to time. you just gotta use alittle strength to keep you quad streight. remember you need to ride the quad and not let the quad ride you. i honestly think the yfz swaps alittle more that the 450 in stock trim

Duke416ex don't take offense I didn't mean anything by that I just sold my 400ex to get my 450r. I was just busting on that smacker!

duke416ex

I really wasn't as offended as I sounded, I just come off wrong at times. I just read a lot of posts on here bout "I got a 450 with a pipe that out runs f-16s" and stupid stuff like that. Stuff just gets old and I just wish some of the peeps would realize that unless you just ride up and down the road top speed doesn't matter and that on a track or in the woods it is a lot in the rider anyway.

Sorry for bein an *****$$ holllleeee, and oh yea, I am not even trying to say that I am anywhere near the best, I just feel that I can hold my own usually, but definately not the best.

ok maybe i cant outrun a f-16 but i can spank a 400 any day of the week

how is it tippy? are you getting to much traction when you turn and your not leaning into it? Ive had mine on some pretty steep inclines and gone sideways across them and thought i was gonna roll down the hill but it never happend. The only time ive ever come close to fliping is when i tried to cut into a doughnut going alittle to fast but that was easy to correct.

Yeah, slow down the rebound, and soften up the rear shock a lil bit. That's why they have adjusters on them. Not all suspension from the factory is set up for every rider. Dont bite my head off, just tryin to help out.

ok ok ok......now that all u have the wrong impression on me. heres the thing i was a lil to harsh on saying im dissapointed i only weight 155 pounds so i adjusted the shocks a bit and then i decided to bring it back to the dealership and have them really soften it up a bit and it worked so forget yamaha.... and i guess i have to apologize.

dude, just keep your 300. dosent seem like your ready for a 450 yet  By posting this on a prior Honda site, you just killed your reputation on here, no matter what you say now.
And i heard "puffs" work great if your still crying.

I liked my YFZ in the handling side of things a lot more than the 450R. I do think my 450R is a lot more tippy than my Yamaha was but it makes up in a race because I can acctually finish instead of having an electrical problem 6-10 races.

i know what u mean by tippy...im racing with my stock tires and always tippuing up on 2 wheels because if i lean any further i slide around n do a 180 lol..as for the whoops its fine to me..im just taking the beating around the turns...that will all change once i get some tires and shocks and such

I hope your dealership didn't charge you to soften the ride. :eek2:

the yamis are great quads. the can make any racer good-----but a honda will make a good racer a CHAMPION;)

06-20-2005, 04:55 PM
well if your not happy with the 450r you will hate life if you get a yfz it rides like a go cart even if your shocks are adjusted.. all you have to do is slow the rebound on your rear shock and see how that works you might have to do it a couple of times to adjust it to the correct setting for your riding style and to your weight..... and the fronts well those are without a doubt the best at the stock setting........ when they set these quads up it is set up for someone who weighs about 175 so if your lighter well then go from there.........
