i don't have the R yet but i was wondering if they use the same filter as the 400ex? if not, does anyone know the part number for STP or Fram filters?

these filters are smaller than the 400ex's and they will not work. I do not think that those people make filters for the trx450r. I buy mine off ebay in packages of 5 for like $15-$20 shipped

I thought the crf filter didn't work in the trx motor?

i have talked to people who ran the K&N 115 in their trx. i have no idea what the difference is but i would prefer to run the proper filter.

are the K&N's any better than the other filters such as the factory ones?

i bought the 115 and it fits perfectly.

originally i posted that i bought the 115 and 116, that was incorrect- i bought the 113 and 115

the 113 is for 400ex
and 115 fits crf.

i tried 115 and it matched up perfectly with stock oil filter in size; so i buy the 115 because they are cheaper than the 116 for the trx.

hope this clarifies.

wow, nice lookup.

so difference is 0.011" taller which is taken up by spring in back of filter and a PSI valve.

pressure valve, huh!

well, i'lve been using the 115 and it works ok for me for quite some time now; so, i'm sticking with what works for me. I would recommend everyone else getting the specified filter though

i still think it's K&N's way at raising its cost on basically the same thing. I'd bet the 0.011" is from the thicker rubber oil seal. I mean common everyone has seen that spring behind the filter to know 0.011" isn't going to matter and PSI valve through paper filter, huh?

any other comments on the PSI valve?

The Outside Diameter on the 116 is 3mm bigger. and if you look at the pic the 116 has a lip on it.

I just installed a CRT stainless one from Rocky Mtn ATV. I bought it last year for $39.99 plus shipping and have not had a chance to actually take it out and clean it yet. I only have one ride on my 450 since installing and everything seems to run the same. I like the CRT brand because you can actually disassemble the filter when changing the oil and clean it out completely before reinstalling. Much better than $10 a piece for the stock one.
