Looking for an engine builder around St Louis… I’m actually from St Charles but anyplace within 50-75 miles is no problem.

Thanks, Wade

Oops, this is for my 400ex.

My 416 gave up the ghost last November and I’m needing a rebuild. As far as what I want… something in the 416-426 range for XC. I’m out of the country right now and plans keep changing so I’m not real sure when I’ll be home. I was just hoping to find somebody before I got back.

well i am not too far from st louis. i have built 3 406's, a 416, a 426, and a 440. i send the cylinders off for the machining and i install everything. i am willing to help you install these if you guys do need help. i actually recommend a new sleeve for the 426. the stock sleeve will work but it is actually a hair past the recommended limit with a 426.

If I decide to do the work instead of having somebody else do it I'll keep you in mind. I haven't broke one of these open yet and I'm not sure if I want this to be my first one.

Thanks for the offer and I’ll keep you in mind.

Hey Cals,

How hard is it to install a piston and a HotCam? I have been trying to find someone to do this for me, I am in the KC area.

its not hard at all. i would have someone there with you for assistance. i install the piston with my hands. others prefer a ring compressor to make the piston go in the sleeve easier. either way will work but i recommend having 2 people there if you do not have a ring compressor. if you have a service manual, the install is quite easy. i would get the service manual and read and understand everything. you should be fine after that. the cam is easy, once you understand how to set the timing. this is explained quite well in the service manual.

There is a place in St. Jacob, IL that will do anything you want. It is Ritter Cycle racing. My buddy had him build a 416 with bigger valves and the works. It is only about 30 miles from stl on I-70.

This is about the only engine builder I know about in the area.

does your buddy run long travel elkas and wide a-arms? just curious because one of my buddies just wrecked one of his friends bike. it sounds like we are talking about the same kid with the 416.

No its not the same person. He does not race the 400 any more, but is racing a 450r now.
