He will probably keep up with a stock one but I don't know about smoking it. If the 450r has the hrc kit and a pipe he won't stand a chance!

what about against a stock 400ex cause my quad does around 67 or 68 and so how much faster will his go then mine
Just putting in a 440 kit and no cam will not do much and NO he won't beat a 450...:scary:

The 440 kit doesn't really give it a lot more topend but it will give it a lot more torque. He will definately beat a stock 400ex easily if he builds it correctly. I rode one a couple of weeks ago and I was pretty impressed with the low end grunt it had.

Was it bored or was it bored and stroked?
It will also depend on how well the motor is built. I'd say if he didn't take care of his 400, the 440 wont be any better;)

I agree, he'll have a ton of money lost if he "forgets" to put oil in a 440 lol.

i know everyone said that the 440 runs really hot. and i saw a guy yesterday when i was out and he builds them everyday and he said that all the ones that he does are really built right i asked for a rough estemet on how much it would cost. But he told me to call to get exsact numbers but what does a normal 440 cost with parts and laber. also a hotcam stage 2

my friend just bought a 450r last week, and when he raced my 440 with no cam in a 200 yard drag, i pulled him off the line and for about the first 50 yards, then it was bye bye 450 cause blew past me in a hurry.
I am impressed with the 450r 's power.

i am also impressed by the 450r's power, the bottom end isnt that good, but midrange and topend are unbelieveable for a stock quad.

i thought the exact opposite when i rode a stock 450r, i felt like it had tons of low end, and almost no topend, like it just fell off when i got in the revs good.

well i think its the rider that will decide the winner
i beat a 450r on a stock z400 (kid with 450 is a crappy rider)
if the a 400ex had these mods would it beat a 450
440 11:1 compression
hotcam stage 2
port and polish
wesico crank and rod
a fatboy 4
14 /38 gearing

yeah but by the time you put all that money in a 400ex you could have a 450r and could make it 2x as fast while not having to worry about overheating./

if the 440ex is built right, it will beat a 450r in a straight drag race to a certain distance, but after so far the 450r's taller running gear will out run the 440ex. Of course different sprocket variations on either bike will make this race vary. So its like the old saying "6 of one half a dozen of the other" meaning they are gonna be pretty close. Four Stroke Tech offers the 440kit that includes piston, rings, pin&clips, sleeve and head gasket for $295. Then your looking at about another $125(roughly) depending on what cam u choose. Then about another $100 (roughly) for headwork, but that depends on whose doing it and prices in your area. Then you need the after market oil cooler $150. Then you have to get your new sleeve installed $$$ ( depends on prices in your area or if you can do it). Then re-assembling the rest of the motor is more $$$ unless you are able to do it yourself. BUT if you had this same money in a 450r then the 440ex will look like its asleep when you race !

i think a 416 is the best build on a 400ex, im sure im not the only one who agrees with this either (for motocross)
