Hi there, does anyone know what the torque spec is for the bolts that retain the clutch springs on a 400ex? the spec is not listed in the repair manual. ThanX everyone.

it isn't all that much. i have read 7-8ft-lbs. i am not 100% sure though. snug is all the manual seems to say.

Yeah, Ive done it many times, and always just snug them up... Only thing that really needs to be torqued carefully is the main stake nut on the shaft, which Im sure youve already done.

Just snug, or you will break the inner hub.

Like the others have said it is in the 7-9 ft lbs range. But unless you have an accurate in lbs torque wrench don't even bother checking the torque at all. Just snug them up good with your hand and you will be fine.

Your average ft lbs torque wrench is not very accurate at either end of the scale and will most likely over torque the bolts causing them to snap. :eek2:

BTDT Not fun!

They sure don't get much. I just snapped one off the other day. Luckily it came out pretty easy

it seems like it wouldn't be hard to twist one of the fingers in the inner hub that these bolts thread into. sometimes... i hate aluminum.
