Hey,
I don't want to take up too much bandwidth, but thought someone might like to see a few pics of a medium size 2nd gear jump. The approach was really messed up, come out of a rutted, whooped up berm into a small straight stretch right before the jump face. JIM

like fun. U guys are getting some big alaskan air. It's not fair cause u get all the good clean cool air in Alaska to run your machines on. :huh

But I guess it works out even cause beer costs so much "up there" or at least thats what I've been told.

We have had weather in the mid to upper 70's all week, which is equal in feeling to about 90 degrees for you guys down south. Something about being closer to the sun up here during the summer.
Beer prices are about 25 bucks for a case of Alaskan Amber, one of the best beers. I didn't get too much air, being only in 2nd gear and all; but it was fun nonetheless.
We have a handful of real good MX riders up here, not the most popular thing up here; so there were actually a group of motorcycle guys that weren't making the downside on this little jump.
The Speed feels really good in the air and it can build rpms in a hurry which helps on short approaches. Been just about a month of owning it now and I really like it..........JIM

its nice to see an unbiased point of view with this cannondale. They do seem like great machines.... just a little too complex for me to ride (maintance)....I'll stick with a simple carb and coil. (for now) :D

BTW, nice air....I'm sure those 'dales feel pretty nice in the air...

looks like fun

For 2nd gear your carrying a good distance..I don't think my 416 could carry a jump in 2nd that far,,I guess it might with stock gearing and tire size,,but that would be a 3rd gear jump for me with the current setup I have.

Yeah, it's a 2nd gear 3/4 throttle jump for the Cannondale. My friend on his 250R was hitting 4th, but he has a 6 speed. My Speed likes to rev to what seems like the moon and makes power pretty much through the whole range. There is a spot around 9 grand or so that makes you think it is time to shift, but if you hold it; some more power comes back just after it.

I am by no means a great jumper, but the Cannondale gives you confidence both in knowing you have the power to make the jump and it feels a lot like my 400ex did once in the air. JIM

I can honestly say this is the quickest, hardest hitting stock quad I have ever ridden. This is no bs, the thing flat hooks up. I raced a Raptor on Sunday and left him by about 4 or 5 quadlengths on the 1/2 mile drag. I care very little for drags, top speed, etc but the Raptor guy made a comment about my POS Cannondale and wanted to get a little. I have yet to see any Z400's at the track or anywhere else, but the dealer supposedly sold 5 since he got them. JIM

the more and more i hear about these speed i want to sell my 400 for one... i have rode a few but nothin for the amount of time to really get a good feel for one... hmmm... i know the 1st thing i would do though... 1-800-fullbore;)

alaska i can't wait to hear how those elkas are compared to the stock ohlins...

The Ohlins are a lot better than the stock 400ex shocks, no question. The fronts are a little too stiff if you ask me and the rebound is pretty slow on them the way they come valved. The rear is really nice, feels great.
I have bottomed both the rear and front Ohlins and if you have felt that feeling, you know it is not one you want to feel too many times. I am looking forward to getting the LSR axle and wheel spacers on for the width the Cannondale needs. I can't wait to get the Elkas on, nothing like a custom tuned suspension.
I am waiting for Trinity Racing to get their full header/silencer and custom mapping setup completed----that will be my next mod.
I have to say that I don't care for the stock ITP wheels at all. My friend has run ITP wheels for years and his have never been able to hold air. I have one rear tire that wouldn't hold air until I put Fix-a-Flat in it. JIM

Jim, I can't believe that at least for the Speed they didn't use a rolled edge rim. That is one thing that surprises me about the Cannondale lineup is their use of straight edge rims.

Man all these cannondales. I am gettin g mad that i have a 400ex now, but i will just wait, cause i am a loyal Honda fan,and see what thye have up there sleeves (maybe a 400-450cc Fuel Injected Aluminum Framed TRX-EX Model?hah yah right)

But anyways,If I ever got one, first thing, just like tomy said, FullBore.

Also,Jim,consider soomeone else, from what i hear from alot of people, Trinity sucks a**. And for at least 20 diffrent people to tell em that, then they must. Maybe go with TC,Sparks or something, they know there sh*t.

Thks,Pro

thanks for the info... yeah i don't like the itp rimz very much either... i like my douglas/champion beadlocks on the rear though... How do u like the 21x7x10 holeshots on the front... do they handle and how are they holdin up... i am thinkin about buyin a set for trail riding...

AlaskaSpeed

The front Holeshots steer and handle nice. The 21's are just the right match for the 20's in the back, but I will be going with some 19 or 20's up front once I get the 18's on the rear.
Our track is pretty sandy, so the wear on the tires is good. I have only been out to some hardpack/gravel flats once on them, but I bet regular trips out there would wear them down. These aren't the MX Holeshots, so they probably wear a bit better. JIM
