I HAVE A 400EX, I AM 210 LBS, I MAY RIDE AN OCCASIONAL HARE SCRAMBLE. HALF OF MY NORMAL RIDING WILL BE IN THE WOODS WITH THE OTHER HALF AT A LOCAL MX TRACK. I AM TRING TO DECIDE WHICH ELKA FRONT IS THE ONE I NEED. THE E 36 HAS NO RESI AND THE PB36C DOES. MONEY IS NOT AN ISSUE BUT AT THE SAME TIME I DO NOT WANT TO SPENT 400 MORE ON SOMETHING THAT I DO NOT NEED. OUR TRACK HAS SOME DECENT JUMPS THAT I LAND FROM 10-15' IN THE AIR AND IT IS JUST A TRAIN WRECK WHEN THE STOCK SHOCKS BOTTOM OUT. ON THE REAR I PLAN ON PUTTING ELKA RR46R. I BELIEVE THAT IS THE ONLY OPTION.

I'm no expert but I'd say if you ride HARD for more than an hour then go for the reservoirs. I have the economy's w/no res. and they work very well for trail/pleasure riding. Both are a huge improvement over stock either way.

My rear shock is a works converted to SSD w/elka springs so I don't have any info really. I went for the economy's figuring I could always add the reservoirs later if I needed them. It isn't cheap though. I would go for the economy's and use the $400 left over for another mod.

I think the advantage of the res is the adjustability to get them tuned in or for different riding areas.

If you want to ride woods and mx I would buy the compression adjustable front shocks, This will allow you to soften them for the woods and stiffen them for mx.
