RPM are top of the line, if you can afford it, go for it. Lonestar is also very good, but if you got the cash, RPM are the best

I believe the general consensus is that RPM is better, but LSR is still a very good axle. Plus, chances are much better for finding a good deal on an LSR.

They are almost the same price, the LSR foes from $410

They can be found for significantly cheaper if you look around.

The cheapest you will find a rpm is $385, you can find a lsr for about 50 less. But you have to look around for deals like that.

I have seen LSR axles as low as $315 shipped (yes, brand new), but I don't have the contact info any more.

That's what I paid for mine but it was a couple of years ago. I belive they raised their prices since then:ermm:

There is one issue that i've seen come up with the LSR, the sprocket hub develops some rotational play in it (I think that's the right term) Mine has it and i've read about others who have it as well. I don't know if LSR has corrected this or not.

All LSR axles do that. The billet that they use is soft and develops play on bigger motored bikes.

Is a stock 400ex considered a bigger motored bike?

It seems that if there's play in there, the faster the hub is going to wear and potentially/eventually stripping the hub all together. I haven't heard of many (maybe one or two?) going that far but it seems possible....

Any facts on this issue would be appreciated:)

yes i run a RPM but the lonestars have beafed up thier axles now...at least for the 450's they do not completely sure about the 400s....the 450 axles dont taper down to the hubs...much strong now i would think...but still i believe that if u can afford the RPM get that one...even a used would be good...i got my RPM for $250

I can't imagine the taper, or lack of, having a significant effect. Most axles taper down to the hub because there is FAR less stress the closer you get to the hub.

When have you ever seen an axle break 6 inches from the hub? They always break right next to the carrier.

i have seen dura breaks break 3 inches from the hub and ive also seen one where the guy lowered his bike ont othe ground off the jack and it bent :eek2: only from the bikes weight!!! that was funny but i got my used RPM for 230 shipped i think

Get an rpm. I have a lsr axle and the castle nuts are always coming loose:mad:  I have talked to several others with an lsr axle and they all have the same problem. I am getting ready to get the rpm axle myself:D

Never had a problem with my Lonestar Axle... Both are great, so get whichever one you can get cheaper if you ask me.... Keep in mind that if you end up buying either of these axles used, you lose the benefit of the lifetime warranty they both offer. Ok, if you dont plan on bending or breaking it, but then again, who plans on it...

Do not buy a Durablue no matter what. I have personally seen 2 of the regular eliminators snap, and they werent even being ridden by very aggressive riders. The X-33 is a joke. I have another friend who has that axle, and their so called "quick adjust" hub system is total $****. The holes where the locking pins go both ovaled out within 2 months, and yes they were tight.... Durablue sux a big one...

There's just no way that's possible. On a 350-375lb. bike, there is just no way.

With proper torquing and the correct-sized cotter pins, your castle nuts should never work loose.
