300EX Handlebars etc

I am wanting to take the stock handle bars off my 98 300EX but I wante to know what was the best way to do this. My concern is the fact that the ignition is on the black plastic piece.

What have some of you done and how hard is this to do?

you can either buy a 250x plastic piece, or drill a hole in the side of your plastic and put it in there.

Is drilling a hole in the plastic hard to do? 250x or 250r plastic?
Where would the ignition go if you used the 250 plastic?:huh

I put mine under the crossbar pad by using zip ties and the headlight mounting bolts to attach the key switch. It's worked fine for 2 years. Still on the original zip ties even. And no holes in my plastic.

You just zip tied yours to the crossbar? What type of bars do you have on yours?

No, I zip tied it under the bars, directly under the crossbar pad. There are 4 bolts (if I remember right) that mount the headlight plastic on the 300. I tied it to one of those bolts.

I got a 250X ignition holder for 15 buks from my local honda dealer, I like it alot, It fits perfect and everything. Good mod, -

You could put good bars on it, and put a nice kill switch on it if you try stunts alot.Helps when the quad starts to run away,lol

I cut a hole in my Plastic and mounted it in there. Then mounted my nuetral and reverse light on the plastic covering my gastank. Its a perfect setup.

I haven't done it yet myself but I plan on using the 250x plastic and just so you know it's 1987 250x ignition plastic. I have the part number written down at work but I did see it posted here a while ago so I'm sure you could search for the part number.

I just pulled my headlight off completely and mounted the Neutral and reverse lights on the gas tank plastic. I also took the ignition off completely and installed a tether switch. Works much better. Just remember to chain it down. Someone tried to rip mine off a couple of months ago.

get this the dick(some canidian) that owned my 300ex before me mounted it on the indetation under the seat where the kick start lever goes on the 250x's it can sometimes be a pain in the leg(literlty cuz of the key chain) an i am pretty sure he "shortenend" the wire tahat leads to it so if i were to put it back next to the handle bars(under them on the side of the plastic) i gotta buy a new key ****ch and cabble that goes down to where ever it conects and i dont know how it will look if i buy maier plastic and mount it in the same place where it is now. well any ways that is what u get for buying used

I actually relocated my key switch on my Blaster a while ago. I got the idea from www.blasterhq.com

It came out real good and was real easy to do. All I did was drill out a hole the size of the ignition moduale, sllid it in then tightined the top nut down and it looks real good!
