ELKA all the way. How much are you willing to spend. Cause Fox shocks are probably going to be pricey.

i think axis has a better vavling system, but if you sent both elka and axis out to get rebuilt and revalved by a shock tuner both can be pretty close to the same comparrison.

My elkas soaked up the slow hits from tree roots and DB ruts but don't hold a light to the way my axis perform on the track.... on the flipside my axis are rough when going slower.

Elka and Axis are the dominant two brands for XC

Pick up the phone call Allen White at Precision Concepts have him order you some Elkas and tell him your style riding, weight, soft or hard, blond or brunette, all the stuff you need so he can valve the shocks to your liking, oh ya and tell him to pick you up some of the new LT A-arms by Epic Racing Products, same ones used by Kory Ellis, Jeremy Shell, Traci Cecco & Sage Baker

but thats only what i would do:D

I must agree with the above two, Elka/Precision Concepts all the way. I couldn't be happier with the job Allen White did.

so no one likes works?? someone who has both i would like your opinion. actually, what does everyone have now on what, with type of riding, as well as what you used to have and give some reviews. that would be some great info for those who are buying aftermarket shocks :macho

i like my works shocks just fine..

having had the opportunity to also try elka's alleged to be set for the same rider weight etc, i cant say that paying the additional cash for elka's is worth it.

i dont feel so bad about having works shocks now! i have never ridden an axis, pep, nor elka equipped quad before so i had no basis to compare. as to the shock piston thickness, has anyone bent an works shock yet that has the 3/8 compared to an 5/8 piston? and who has bent an 5/8 piston? and what were you doing?

yeah i have seen Axis 5/8 shafts get Bent,,, and axis is suppose to have really good shafts.

i have had both and i can tell you that the elkas are alot more solid for what i do,,, sure for normal rec riding works are fine.

what makes you like the elka's so much more other than the thicker diameter shaft? im guessing that if the shafts bent, they were probably heavily weakened by some rough landings, or just the rigors of racing. cant expect all of the components to last when we push a 400lb plus rider machine over all kinds of crap i guess! also, (completely off the subject) my buddy and i just finished building an 440ex, but it wont start. it turns over, compression is good, spark isnt great but there is spark, but i didnt smell any fuel. there are 2 vacuum lines off going into a tee which we cannot remember where they go, do you know? also at top dead center, do the lobes on the camshaft point up or down? :
