I think the lakota can go in the 52-53 mph range.

a picture is worth 1000 words...........

#1 the wife is riding the lakota
#2 massive air eh?
#3 compare her air on the lakota to the air achieved by the 300ex in this photo........speed was similar.

the lakota is a nice little bike. but it has a slow revving sluggish engine & its way too heavy.

I kind of miss the old lakota, sold it to buy my son a YZ80. Had a good ride and the racks were useful. The stock goodyear tires were awful. They vibrated the whole quad going down dirt roads. Put on a full set of titan 489's, rode very smooth and had good traction.

sgaexer,
I agree the lakota is a nice play machine, and the front rack was real useful. the rear rack was pretty much useless, and I actually ended up removing it.

if your thinkin of buyin a lakota, go ahead and get a 250ex. there more sporty lighter and more menuverable. and i think they run about the same speed. and oh yeah i forgot, cheaper

I have a 2000 lakota. I also took the racks off. I dunno why u are bad mouthing it, It has a good suspension and it is one of the faster 300's out there. I can beet worriors and 300exs with it. It is still not as fast as my blaster.:blah

the lakota is nothing more that a mojave chassis with a bayou 300 engine. it has OK suspension, and it has a nice feel on the trails. but it isn't going to blow away a 300ex, warrior, blaster, or a mojave for that matter.

05-31-2002, 03:54 PM
heck a mojave is faster than a blaster and i am faster than a mojave with my mods when there are stock and yes i can beat a stock warrior vs. me in a drag

Dude, I have owned both the mojave, and the lakota. neither one will outrun a blaster.

I looked on your webpage for a picture of your highly modified lakota, and I didn't see it. But I now know why you had to go into the engine & do some work.

Dirt wheels had a shout out between the 250ex and the lakota. It beat the 250ex in most of the catagories. They said it was faster had better supension and some other stuff. I would definetily get the lakota over the 250ex becuase the reasons above and cuz the lakota is slightly cheaper. But i don't think it could beat 300ex/warrior.

That was before I converted it to a soprt quad. Now the racks, headlights are out and gained about 12 lbs off with some other things
P.S. I made it through that hole fine and it didnt even get NEAR the intake snorkel

i htink now i know why you did engine work to a lakota...

you do know that a 2x4 probably wont make it out of most mud holes like that.. i say that you killed it in that little mud hole and have to rebuild your engine.. cause no one in the right mind would build a LAKOTA there is no point

LOL.........this picture should explain your rebuild. the air filter is located on the left side of the machine below the seat. there is NO way this machine isn't taking on water in this pic.

Actually the snorkle is located just in front of the handle bars under the plastic the on the lakota.
I do agree with you 4 punks, putting a quad in that deep is asking for trouble.

sgaexer........the snorkel could be located on the moon, that junk airbox is not water tight, and it is under water in the pic I linked.

This young fellow just needs some guidance. Not trying to bash you or your lakota blazinhonda, just trying to give you some perspective. The lakota does a lot of things well and its a fun machine, but it isn't a mud bogger, and it isn't going to beat any one of the quads you mentioned. Not in the woods, on the track, or in a drag. Not with 2 equally matched riders. end of story.

I knew when I typed that about the snorkle I should have added what you said about the air box being junk. Mine sure was. I rode the stew out of my lakota for two years, through everything.....Except deep water. I never rode it any deeper than a couple inches above the pegs, I knew better. As far as my lakota out running the quads in question- MINE would not. It was a slug, but I enjoyed riding it.
