Hey is a 440 Big Bore Kit worth the money? And about how much more seed will it add?

it wont add more speed... you will just get there quicker...

unless you change your gearing or tire size.

from reading around here ive heard that 426 or 416 would even be a better choice.

Both 426 and 416 are more reliable than 440 if done right. I hear 440 have lots of problems

426 ( .120 over bore, I think ) is just one more bore than 416 ( .80 over bore, I think), only problem if you wear out the 426 is that is the last bore on your stock sleeve

I bought my EX and it was already a 426, I have ran it for 2 years now ( GNCC racing and Mid-South hare scrambles ) and not had any problems yet and am very pleased with the performance. As long as you maintain your quad regurlarly I would go for the 426 !

I would do a 440 over a 426 or 416. But thats just me.

Just the big bore alone is not going to do a whole lot.

I will put any 426 with a cam, port and polish, and pipe, airfilter, rev box beside a 440 with exact same setup and win 99% of the time.

You might win all the long drag races, but the 440 will pull harder out of every corner. And over the coarse of the race it adds up.

My tc426 pulls a little harder on top then my 440's did but the 440 had a lot more bottom with less compression.

Like Ive posted before.. If your 440 is done RIGHT, it will last just as long as a 426 will. Ive had mine for several months now and I havent even blown a gasket :) So far so good and IVe been very happy with it. I also like my 426,but Im finding after some gearing changes I like my 440 better :) If I ended up doing any further mods to my quad(which I dont intend to do) Ill be doing a Stroker.. :D

The 426 is great also, I have one on stand by in case I ever need it .

cant remember who it is, but someone on theis site said his 440 has lasted 4 yrs so far and still runnin great. but they do get hot faster and sounds like the main problem is head gaskets but they usually put in bigger head studs to help out. i personally would go with a 416 (11:1 so you can still run pump gas) with good mods, youd be happy. im thinkin of gettin 1 myself

440...just go all the way...costs the same. Mine has lasted 2 full XC seasons and is still going strong! Never had a problem with overheating or blown head gaskets. I have a 440 with K&N filter and open air box with HMF slip-on...thats it! and it is real quick in tight woods!

Your head gasket just blew...but I would still go with the 440, he kicks my stock 400ex all the time:D

Derek

remember you need more bottom end in tight races like xc, you don't have to down shift as much, but in wide open areas the 416-426 would probly be better

alright let me re-phrase that...you wont blow head gaskets as long as you have a metal layered gasket like the cosmetic gasket that comes in the kit...dont my metal flake gaskets!

440...I race the heck out of mine and still take it to the dunes and to the trails! They are bullet proof as long as you dont go with compression higher that 11:1 and dont go wild with cams or porting.

Here it is...only things done to the motor are Wiseco 440 kit, ebc racing clutch and HD springs, K&N(open air box), and a HMF slip-on.

Here is a pic of her in action!

Im running the 12:1 and so far no issues!! Kinda sucks running a mix of race fuel though :ermm: :p

Any of you tried the VP purple yet??? Ive been thinking of callingVP and asking wha the differences are between that and C-12 other than half the cost :huh

My friend put a 440 kit in his several years ago and has never had a problem with it...mine is stock and every time i ride his i want to get the 440 more and more...when you can do a wheelie in 5th gear on a 400ex(440)...well i pretty much just said it haha

-Just thought i would put that out there

Nothing wrong with the 440's IMO, just do it right and it will last a long time. Get HD studs from GT thunder tho for peace of mind. And use the cometic metal gaskets

the 440 that is still going strong after 4 years did NOT have the hd head studs, larger oil cooler or anything! but if you do one i think the ones with the new jugs are best to get, its all new metal that is not stressed out like your stock jug probly is.

man go big or go home i have a 400 ex punched and stroked to be a 460 and i love it its fast its been reliable and runs great for drags and track racing personally i feel like my 416 build was nuttin compared to this i love mine but am parting it out cause i now race a custom built 450r with 15.1 compression my 400/460 was running 11.1 with ported head stg 2 cam better for mid range and corners and a 450r carb still could use a few things but was just a toy till i finished my 450 the 440 is great and for a little more just do a full rebuild and do the bottom end with the stroker too ull have a blast and love it

my 440 12.5.1 is still strong , we drag race it for over a year and we are spraying a 30 hp shot of nos on it.

We dont have the HD studs but we did O-ring the cyl and cut the top off the acorn nuts so thay will tighten down better.

We are building a 426 11.1.1 with all the same set up. just the comp, is deffrent. its going on a 30hp shot of nos as well. we was told that set up was faster than the 440 so we will see, I will post my findings when we test them.
