some of you may know that i have a 86 big bore mx 250r, but i just wanted to show off my other toy that i will, hopefully, be competing with this fall. the engine needs to be downgraded, b/c it now has a superstock engine in it, which they no longer run at the track near me... i guess it was too fast for them at 17 hp(thats a lot for a briggs and straton engine that is rated at 5hp); lol. just wondering if any of you like it. any comments are welcome. thanks

my kart, 17 hp world formula.

I dont think you are getting 17 hp out of that briggs. maby 14. I was getting 11 out of my engine that was that type, and it had all the goodies.

i'm not telling tales. 17 hp on the dyno. it was one of the fastest karts on the track when they still raced them there. it was my fathers kart, and he's not one to lie about the numbers it put out. the engine was built by kurtzman racing.

just lookin at those carts makes me want to drive, last summer me and my sisters freind rode his pair of 125 shifters all over our town. it was fun as hell those things fly i was suprised how good the brakes grabed they cound stop just as fast as it accelerated, YZ125 motors set up with custom pipes and porting, those little things would haul *** on the freshly paved roads

my girlfriends lil bro races those go carts. hes really good according to what other ppl say that race em. he took 1st in points at one track and second at another last year and this year hes been gettin 1st and second whole time. they just got a whole new frame and they got a new motor that theyre constantly makin faster. its surprising how fast those things actually are.:eek2:

edit: heres a pic where u can see a lil bit of his cart lol its the black with green trim in the corner and thats his dad with the black trailer.

ReconRider25, does ur girlfriends lil bro race on a dirt track, b/c the gound is dirt in pics? the track i race at is pavement, and a lot faster than dirt, but dirt tracks always seem fun. the superstock we have has gotten close to 90mph on a straightaway with my father in it, and my father is a big guy.

BTW, to everybody that calls them "carts" they are acctually spelled "karts", just so you all know.

ours tops out at close to 90mph, while superkarts(rare) top out at over 160mph. superkarts are 250cc karts, pretty much the same as mine(pictured), but with a huge wing on the back for downforce.

yeah i have a frind that races them. he had a 125 but then he changed to the rotax motors or something. i'm not sure really cause its not really that big around here.

I race on a 1/5 mile paved oval, top out at about 70 -75.

there are shifter karts there to 80cc class, man do thoes things rip.

I can tell you guys this, you can have a engine that is half again as powerful as everyone ellse. and you can still come in dead last if you dont have the chassis set up correctly.

or someone with little power and perfect chassis setup can take the lead. it really is a lot more complicated than one would think!!

yeah, exactly what mittimj said. handling is key, and our kart is set up for the track it is raced at, seeing as though it has been run on that track for many years now. handling is the most important part, seeing as though you can only go so fast through the corners.

The first weekend after Christmas Daytona International Speedway opens up the track for Karts. Saturday is for 4 strocks and Sunday is for shifters. You come down the front straightaway, go into the road course at turn one, go through it, then out of it between turn one and two and go around the entire track again. Thats about 3 1/2 miles I believe. You also pit right where the nascar racers pit, on pit road. Its pretty cool.

87250rxrider ,
yes it is on dirt. hes only 12 and in the junior 2 class and they have restrictor plates still. theyre only doing about 55 tops.

05-17-2005, 07:29 PM
55 is still fast when you are a fraction of an inch from the ground!!

Yeah I belive 17hp, I was reading in an old auto mag.. Some company got 50hp out of a B&S originally 5hp, no joke, it ran on alky I believe, somehow made it liquid cooled, flat slide carb, ext, sad that thing made more hp than most race quads.-darren:blah:
