Have o5 400ex,Dealer said not to use synthetics due to clutch and something about rings? Should I stick with Honda oils?What are you guys using?

Break it in with the Honda oil, thren switch to synthetic. You just have to be careful of which synthetics you buy, they have to be "wet clutch safe". I use Amsoil 0w-40, awesome oil.

could a full synthetic do anything to the rings. i used to use mobil 10w-40 fully sythetic in my ex but i just recently switched to bellray 10w-40 semi-sythetic motorcyle oil?

I run full synthetic Amsoil 20w50 or Kotz 20w50 all the time and have had no problems with the clutch or rings so far. I broke my bike in with the synthetic after this rebuild as well with no problems...

yes Im assuming the mobil wasn't for atv use so its not good to use that, although some people do and have no complaints. You would have to run stiffer clutch springs to be on the safer side though, as it will cause more slippage in the clutch if its not meant for wet clutch use. As far as rings, its claimed that the rings will never seat properly if you use full synthetic to break in the engine. I used GN4 to break in my EX and am switching back to my klotz 10-40 fully synthetic.
