Pull out Ur auto-adjuster and if U only have a click or two left on it then Ur chain is stretched. Mine stretched at about 80hrs of hard riding. Its not too hard to replace if U have a manual and since U have to remove the cams, its a good time for adding some Hotcams or Webbs. I ended up doing a Big Bore and Valves at the same time too. Z400 Central has alot of info on the subject also.

To check the tensioner remove the middle bolt first. then the 2 small bolts that hold it to the cylinder. If you don't remove the bigger middle bolt the adjuster will just push to the end. The cam chain is the only weak spot on the motor.

Best place to look is Ebay. I got mine for $100 shipped.
No doubt the thing IS heavy duty.

your cam chain and tensioner should be replace. mine did it about a week ago and the motor seized on me.

the best cam i think is stage 2 hotcams. and i put 440 kit with 13-5-1 compression piston in and my quad ripped. i keep up with my friends 450r and he has a high compression piston, and hot cam, and pipe. and were always 90% of the time even.
