Buchanan, MI Once again some of the fastest ATV racers in the World head to Michigan to conquer “Red Bud” in Round #7 of the ATVA GNC MX Nationals, and boy did they turnout with over 752 riders signing up to compete even with rain in the forecast, which is terrific news for state of ATV racing. The rain did arrive as forecasted on Friday with it continuing into the overnight with on and off showers, but Saturday turned out to be a beautiful day for racing with the skies clearing by afternoon, which allowed the sun quickly dry out the track to the point that it actually became dusty before all the motos were completed.

The big news this week heading into Red Bud was whether #13 John Natalie Jr would be racing after the ATVA suspended him for one race, but John Natalie Jr has appealed the suspension, which will allow him to race this weekend until his appeal is reviewed and a final decision is determined this coming week.

Also, sadly, Ray Christy will no longer be part of running the show at the GNC Nationals, but don’t worry; he plans on returning to the sport his loves on some level in the near future. Thanks Ray for everything you have done for ATVriders.com over the years.

Saturday’s News

With yet another incredible turnout, many classes where split into several divisions to determine the top 20 that would compete in the Amateur finals on Sunday.

#35 Travis Spader has been having an incredible comeback season and headed into Red Bud in the top 5 in points, but he made huge mistake this weekend and neglected to signup for the event before actually practicing on Friday and Saturday, which is against the ATVA rules, so he was disqualified from competition for the weekend, which will really hurt him in the points chase.

Dana Creech made a surprise return to the GNC MX Racing for atleast one weekend after deciding to at the beginning of the season to focus on racing in the ITP Quadcross and other ATV ventures closer to home in California, and he shocked everyone by coming out and winning the Pro Qualifier after the leader, Harold Goodman, race ended in the last lap from a cracked engine case, which sent him to the LCQ. Harold Goodman went on to win the LCQ with Pat Brown taking the final gate position with 11 qualifiers advancing to the Pro Main Event instead of the normal 10 because of the absence of Travis Spader.

Sadly, I must report the Jorge Cuartas was sent to the hospital for immediate surgery after breaking his femur bone, which already was secured with a rod from a prior accident outside of ATV racing which left him with only one leg, which makes his injury even more debilitating.

This injury will be a severe setback to Jorge and the entire industry because of how actively he is involved in promoting and moving ATV racing into the spotlight. Jorge has dedicated his life to ATV racing, and it shows in everything he does for the sport.

For those of you that have never heard of Jorge Cuartas, I am sure you still have seen some of his work and never thought about the person behind it. Jorge is responsible for producing the high gloss professional programs that have been available at the GNC Series events for the past couple of years, and for the first time this year at the GNCC Events. Also, he pulled together several big sponsors to form the Media Allstars FMF Amateur race team to compete in the GNC Series. If this wasn’t already enough, he also runs the Honda ATV Ambassador Program which allows riders with disabilities and Top riders from other Countries the opportunity to compete in ATV racing. In additional to all of this he also maintains a great source for ATV racing information www.atvnationals.com If all of this was enough for many to handle, he continues to races as well in the GNC Series.

Please keep Jorge in your thoughts and prayers as he recovers from this setback, and I am sure he would love to hear some words of encouragement, so please send him an email jorge@atvnationals.com and let him know how much we appreciate everything that he does for our sport.

Check back throughout the day on Sunday for updates from the track and live coverage from both the Pro Motos!!!
