I found this 416ex near me, and I'm going to go check it out tomorrow. I did not get a mod list, but it has +3 long travel a-arms, with elka tripple rate remote rezzie shocks, a rebuilt rear shock, brand new holeshots, new maier plastic, 416 motor with port + polish, Hot cam 2, and a few other things i cant remember in the motor. It has a ton of other stuff on it, but like i said, he didnt list all the mods. It looks to be nice, and ill make sure of that tomorrow, but is 4500 reasonable?

Here is a link (http://www.auto-rv.com/default.asp?area=browsedetail&adname=BI3050197)

I guess that picuture isnt recent, because it has new tires, and other stuff like that. I'm not very familiar with suspension, but is there normally that much space at the top of the elka long travel shocks?

Yep, the space is normal. If you can, find a pic of Doug Gust's Race Z450...you'll see his shocks are the same way.

Looks good to me man! for $4,500, if it runs good and all bearings are in check, go for it!

I checked out dougs quad, and some others that i saw pictures of from the dealer expo, and almost all of them had that space. When i was looking on here, i couldnt find any that did. I just wanted to make sure that was normal.

it has the big space because they are triple rate instead of quad rate...

To me $4500 seems to much. When the 450r came out, the price for a modded 400 dropped. I know aft. parts are expensive like long travel arms and elka shocks. But for $4500, I would rather spend a little more $$$ and get the 450r. I have a 426 and have tons of aft. parts on it, but I'll probably never sell it because I would take a huge hit in my pocket. To me, that quad is worth $3000-$3500 and no more than that. just my .02 cents here

I think 3 is way low. That's what i see really good shape stock ones going for. I'm going up to see it today, and I'll see what kind of shape its really in. It might be in bad enough shape it is only 3500. But maybe its in perfect shape? Shocks just rebuilt, motor just rebuilt. But, you never know.

Ill give a report when i get back tonight.

Stupid question i know. But what is the best way to see how good the bearings are? I want to make sure i dont overlook anything when i go to look at it.

Check for play where the bearings are. The swing arm, axle carrier, a-arms (bushings)...etc..just grab the parts and see if they have any movement in directons that they SHOULDN'T move. Everything should be nice and tight.

Is a stock 450 really that much better than a long tavel 416? I really like how cheap all 400ex parts are right now. Like I said, I have a bunch of questions written down to ask him, and i wrote down what all i want to check. I want to make sure i dont forget anything.

I went and saw it, and its a pretty clean bike. It was kinda dirty, but with a wash, it would look really nice. That hot cam sure is annoying as heck when you first hear it, but i guess you get used to it after a while. It pulled pretty hard, and it rode nice. It sounded really good. No bends in the frame, no paint coming off the frame. All bearings really tight, no play anywhere, except for where the tie rod end was a little loose. I want to get it, but my dad im sure has to think it over. Hes one of those people that takes his sweet old time to make decisions.
