In a drag race has anyone's 450R been beaten by a stock jug and crank 250R?
I've tried 4 different times in a TRX250R and an ATC250R and I can't do it!

Last night we raced my 450R (pipe and HRC kit) Against my 1985 ATC250R. My 3-wheeler has an 1987 TRX motor, .040 Weisco, rad valve, ESR pipe. 36mm flat slide, no air box lid and a CR head gasket. My 450R smokes it by over 5 bike lengths. Sometimes more than that.

My buddy has a 450R with the same mods and he has the TRX250R. His 250R has a Weisco, cool head with 19cc dome (110 octain), professionally ported cylinder, 38mm air stryker, K&N with an open air box and ESR exhaust. This one can't come close to the 450's either. What is going on here?

well my brother has a 250r with almost the exact stuff as that 250r you described except my brother has a fmf pipe. i only have a full duncan pipe and no lid and he takes me off the start and usually i get beaten. this is in a short field tho. i think on a longer one i would smoke him because once i get in 4th i start catching up really fast. i get angry when he gets in front of me of the start. thats why i am buying a cam and pulse charger. i will smoke him then but now he has an 05 cr 250 too. i dont think i can beat that.

We were racing on pavement, sometimes the 250 can get out in front in first gear but after that it's the 450 all the way. Both of our 450's have cams, which makes a nice difference. From the sound of it this is normal? I thought a 250R should be faster.

Well imo, they should be pretty close. I have a very similar 250r as yours and I had it dyno'd at HMF last week with the following results:
Peak HP = 43
Peak Tq = 29
HMF shows the 450 graph on their website with the 450r making:
Peak HP = 37
Peak Tq = 32
The 450r had full HMF pipe/header, open airbox & rejetted with knobbies on. HMF said they always test with knobbies on unless someone brings in a quad with slicks on it, mine had knobbies too.

Something else interesting but unrelated is that HMF said they have never EVER had a yammi or honda 450 pull over 50 peak hp. No matter how much work was done to the engine - including pro national quads (I'm assuming this was with knobbies on and still bored at 450)...but in the same sentence he said the only quad ever to break 50hp was a fully worked Raptor with a 727 bore which pulled 60hp.

...bring it up to Silver Lake next weekend and lets see...I'll be there the 19th-22nd.:macho

The moddified 250 you are talking about will eat u alive everytime. They have so much potential even with simple portwork but this one has the coolheads w/domes and a high comp piston, not to mention he did it right with a better carb. My friends 250r is basically stock. It has been bored a couple of times and has works shocks. He can take me pretty easily up Old Hill but on the flats he doesn't have a chance. I mean he has is tail between his legs after 3rd gear and by the time I hit 5th, I'm looking at a good 10+ bike lengths. I just can't beat him, when the sand is dry, up Olds! Damnit. But I have a couple things up my sleeve for next time, Muuwahahahahahahahha.
