View Full Version : custom frame and adjustable suspension

this is the frame, steering stem, swingarm, and a-arms that my dad and I made. It uses a CR250 motor, the front suspension uses microsrint shock sliders to adjust the ride height and stiffness of the suspension. The swingarm uses a different type of slider, and 2 heims to adjust it, let me know what you think

That is awsome that you actualy built that. What kind of plastics are going on it?

Very trick chassis!

that looks amazing. maybe someday that idea will be developed and used on new machines. however, i don't know if i'd trust landing a big jump with those upper front shocks mounts, with just the clamp, looks a bit scetchy to me to hold hundreds of pounds of pressure, i'd be worried it might slide. that looks like a really good idea though.

Yeah, maybe put some pins through the mounting points at different levels to keep it from moving, otherwise nice concept.;)

I meant plastics from what quad is going on it. Since it's a custom frame you could put any plastics on there you wanted. That would be cool if you made different mounting bracets so you could switch from 250r plastic to like v force plastic etc.

its based on 400ex geometry so im using 400ex plastic

what are you going to do about all the vibration

everything is rubber mounted i will try to get a pic of the front motor mount we made

I'd weld those upper shock mounts...

im no expert at this stuff but what is the point to the shock mounts being like that isnt it just going to changed the motion ratios and leverage and make the shocks perform bad? looks like alot of a hassle

we can raise and lower it 3-4 inches, but we wanted to be able to change the leverage ratios, if we put the sliders on the outside the shocks will feel a lot stiffer, if we put them on the inside they will be softer becasue of leverage. the shocks were set up for a 400ex, but we are using a cr250 motor which is a lot lighter, so we want to be able to adjust them as much as possible

It looks like it would slide but I guess if you have it torqed etc it wont go anywhere?

That is really awesome! I would put holes in it and put a pin through it or put another clamp on top to make sure it doesn't slip.

that is really sweet! i hope it works really well for you. What type of riding are you going to use it for? If it works as well as planned do you think you'll patent and sell start doing more production of it? I really want to see how it works, its cool seeing other chassis ideas like W-tec and now this.

Whats up with the enormus rear sprocket?

He's using a dirtbike engine, they always ahve huge rear sprokets like that.

I was thinking the same thing. I know you probably put it there for better cooling, but it will be fine moved back into the frame. It is looking really nice. When are you gonna be able to ride it, I want to know how that suspension works.

the thing about bikes having big sprockets...look at the size of there wheels and tires and look at quads and how come the radiator isnt mounted in front of the motor?

the radiator wouldnt fit in front of the motor very easy, and we had problems with the motor overheating

i took it for a test ride yesterday, and i didnt have a chain guide on, the chain came off broke the case guard and cracked the case, we epoxyed it and it held oil. i rode it again today and it runs very good, but we have to mount the seat before we go to rausch creek next week

id say relocate the radiator as well that things going to be getting caked with mud and u will have major overheating issues and possible if start leaking if you got hit by a roost with a rock in there
