my friend was cleaning his carb on his 2001 300ex, and when he sprayed cleaner into the top by the jet, a black rubber spring popped out, does anyone know where it goes

If its in the slide area w/ the needle jet?

It's probably the retainer spring for the arm that pulls the Slide up and down. Goes on the little White nylon connector between the arm and the slide.

You push it over the rods and it will slip into the grove to keep the nylon connector from slipping off.

thanks for the help, but its not like a real spring its rubber and looks like a spring and it has a hole through it like it goes over a needle or sumthing and he doesnt know where it goes

Can you give us a picture of it?

The only thing I can think of is the protective boot that goes on the accelerator pump shaft.
