Hey guys, I wasn't sure which forum this would go in so I just thought I would post it here. I have my 400's engine torn down and gonna redo the top end, but while its apart figured i might as well clean it up.

How did you guys get that caked on dirt and mud that has baked itself onto the engine off. Their isn't any "mud" on it, but it is still dirty. Let me know your secrets I'd love to clean this sucka up a bit.

I think that while you have it kinda appart you should paint the cases to match your frame, if you have it painted or powdercoateda different color. I hear that un diluted simple green works the best.

cases are polished, i was just looking to clean up like the fins (i think thats what they are called) on the outside of the cylinder and other parts that have the caked on dirt.

Thanks !

That would destroy the polished finish. don't bead blast. Try some mother's aluminum polish, I haven't tryed it, but mabey the caked on dirt can be buffed out by hand.

I'd try the Simple Green. Great stuff :)

I sand blasted mine the other day and it worked great. Most soaking solutions arent going to take the burnt on dirt off....I tried most of them.
