i want my 2004 400ex to go faster. I was reading some other post and it said to change the gearing and the cdi. Whats all of that about and where could i get that. I have a full hmf right now and 11:1 piston, stage 2 hotcam, and big gun rev box. plz tell me anything to make it go faster. Also i read that all of those mods dont make it faster, its just suppose to help it get to top speed quicker. Any info will be helpful.

go with the sparks 465 kit, i rode one for the first time the other day and it goes like a bat out of hell. reliable as can be too

i would try sprockets. It also depends on your riding style and area you ride in. If you ride motocross or tracks I would get smaller tires. if you like to ride in trails or roads i would get bigger tires. I just got tires and they have help on speed "alot".:eek2:

all the tires do is change the gearing. changing the rear sprocket to a smaller one is the same thing as putting bigger tires on the back.

the 465 goes for around $2000 i think. everything is done right for reliability purposes. 2 people around here have them, 1 has had it for 4 years, races and trail rides in the summer and rides snowmobile trails in the winter. its all in the kit, sure you can go cheap and get a 440 kit and do nothing else and have problems or you can get a quality kit that has a stronger connecting rod and what not all for reliability. i've seen the 465 beat banshees without a problem. but if i were you and still had a quad with stock suspension i would recomend upgrading first. you will be much faster with a good working suspension. all the power in the world isnt going to help you if your suspension sucks.

try 14/39 gearing, youll lose a little top end but gain lots of bottom end.

Gearing for more speed also taller tires. engine mods help accel faster and keep your speed. I'm running on my 450R stock gearing and some minor engine mods, mostly i have done suspension tuning to get my speeds faster on the trials.

my buddys 400EX needs alot of work to just keep up.
