hers a pic of the side cover tapped.you need to get a 1/4 inch tap tap i t as far as you can then cut the tap and finish the hole.dont use the check ball.use a 5mm drill and drill it out where it goes into the engine case and tap it with a 6mm tap then get a 6mm 1/4 inch long allen head plug.i got everything at the local hardware store.

if you look on the case where the oil passage is it lines up with it on the case.its on the part that encloses the cam chain on the case if that makes any sense.heres a pic ,the arrow is pointing toward the oil hole you need to drill and tap.

well if you have any internal motor mods your quad will start to run hot, this will drop your oil temp by about 50 degres..

still dont really see the need for a check ball there seems like it would only add to the oil pressure or does it drop oil pressre too much

The link posted by cummingetit is of my EX. The reason for blocking of the passage is to eleminate the oil going to the head and route it to go into the 2nd oil cooler. I used a 1/4x20 set screw in mine instead of the ball. If you want some better and closer pics I can take you some tomorrow when the weather clears up here in Ohio.

wont there be enough oil for the head and the cooler? w/ out the check ball? Has anybody did it w/out the check ball or set screw?
Also here is the pic of the top for people who want to see the whole mod:D

if you dont block off that passage there wont be enough pressure to force the oil through the cooler, well there might be but i assume it would just dribble out.when you tap the valve cover it dumps the oil in the same spot as stock so nothing doesnt get oil.the oil just doesnt bake on the way up to the head by going through the passage in the head right next to the cylinder.

you can also tap the hole in the top of the head where the oil would normaly come out. here is my set up works great

Man, I wish I had some of this crap done to my bike. Let me post a couple ??? bout this. Do you need to plug off both the hole in the casing, and the hole in the head, if not what will it affect if you do? Second, what did ya'll use for the secondary cooler, just another stock one or what? Does the bike have extra oil capacity afterwards, and how much? Will the cooler oil temp, i.e. engine temp, cause any other problems? Dang that is a lot of questions, sorry, just curious.:D

You have to plug the oil passage at the bottom of the motor, top of the cylinder or both. If not then you are defeating the purpose of the 2nd cooler to do it job cooling the top of the head.

I used a Setrab brand cooler, it is used for cooling the rear end gear fluid in NASCAR type stock cars. It acts as a heat sink so it cools with little air going through it.

I gained maybe a 1/2 quart if that, oil temp works like air temp the cooler the better you machine will perform.

Hope I helped.

No you don't have to plug both holes, as long as you plug one to stop the oil flow, you can plug the one on the case or the one in the head it will do the same, you could even plug it in the cylinder if you want.

I use one of a street bike, you can use another stock one if you want, and alot of people use car transmission cooler, they work good to.
It will have a little more capacity, but not much, that is not the point of it.

No it won't cause any problems it=f anythign it will help not to have problems

If I plug both holes, it won't bother anything though right, what size line did you use to run from the engine to the cooler? I think I will look for a stock cooler.

You can plug all the holes you want it won't hurt anything:D

as for the size I don't really know mine is the same size as the stock cooler lines ( in rubber ) But I guess it depends on the size of the fittings on the cooler you get.

i posted the link to jegs up there^^^

im pretty sure the rubber lines that come with the kit are 3/8's inside diameter...youll need a 1/4 inch npt pipe tap for the valve cover and side case.

the only way to no tape anything is to hook it up direct with the stock one, it will help a little...but not even close to what this can do
