What are all of you guys gearing your 300EX for racing mx. I dont race big tracks like the nationals, if you have ever been to a fair race and how those tracks are really tiny, thats what i will be racing. I was thinkin 14/37or38, if that gears it down, if im goin the wrong way, i guess it would be 12/39. Please help, i have no low end zip around the turns and lose alot of ground.

What i did was just put 18" tires in the rear but it had no top speed which was were i was getting passed It had a lot of low end though, so what i am going to do is put a 14tooth up front and a 2 or 3 less teeth in the rear for MX and just keep the smaller rear sproket for xc and just put on the stock 13 tooth.

get 14/36 or 13/36 you will have plenty of top end for the fair tracks because this is what i use with 18 inch tires. I actually run 13/36 when i am at a fair race more because it will give me just a tad more low end which us 300s need for the start because at a fair race the start is the most important thing. So if I were you i would go to www.magicracing.com and get a kit with a chain and sprockets and get one of those gearings and then buy a front sprocket the opposite of what you got so you can change out.

like if you got a 14 tooth front in the package get an extra 13 or vise versa. that way when you go to a bigger track you can change gearing.

i have the stock gearing and 20x11x9 razrs and it gives me good low end could be better but if u put 18's on it it will make the swingarm right near the ground and if theres any ruts in the track u could bottom out....just my 3 cents

im runnin stock (13/38) right now and ive got 18's. I do have a little low end, but not as much as i know i could with a sprocket change. So i guess im goin with either 14/36 or 13/36. Thanks for all the input guys.

I run 18 inch Holeshot MXR4's on the back, and I run a 14-34 gearing. I still have plenty of snap, but the top end is way better. But, I make sure to always take along my extra sprockets. I'd say it's a good idea to keep an assortment of em on hand. I have 12, 13, and 14 tooth fronts. And 34, 36, and 38 sprockets for the rear. It's nice, because when you get to where you're riding, you can change around your sprockets for the terrain or track.

i always keep my 38t rear w/ me just in case, i have yet to need it tho

and kyleschonert if you think you only have a little lowend w/ 18s and stock gearing, you're gonna think you have no low end if you go w/ 14/36, that makes your gearing taller, or more topend

so what would you suggest for more low end with 18 inch tires, and the track doesnt have that much long straits. Im talkin they are really small and i never hit 5th while on the track.
