The specs go like this .
00 Arens 250r frame, converted to hold yz426, and no link dc2 chrome
Houser +3+1 long travel uppers chrome
Dominator Axle
Jassen double pass radiator
arens stem
ls antifade
nacs billet hubs
braided brake lines
Elka quad rates fully adj in front
Elka tripple rate fully adj in rear
etc....
Motor 2001 yz426 with big bore to 450
Hotcams
hinson clutch
tc exhaust w white brothers tapered head pipe
misc everything you get the idea

I may also be at silver lake that weekend we have a seasonal at silver hills
my borther rides a raptor and my hybrid now has a black vented hood

Could you give some more details of how you did the conversion of the frame and maybe a few close up pics. I am interested in doing the same thing.

I can send you some close ups but it will have to be next week, my quad is stored out of town and I'm leaving for the weekend and then going to redbud on sunday to watch the pro mains.

I'd be interseted in the sand bash looks like a good time I definetly mx more then dune ride but I'm always up for some racing no matter what it is and you'll definetly catch me at the drag strip on the dunes pouncing on yfz's

that frame you used, does the swinger bolt run through the engine like the 86 frames or is it the 87-89 style with different rear engine/swinger mounts?

i have a spare 86 250r frame sitting here that i was thinking about trying to cram a crf 450 into,

im with tcs, can ya give some insight into mods to the frame to get that motor in.......

real nice quad btw

i thought the 450 dirt bike engines where too tall for 250R frames?? or is that just the CRF?:cool:

nacs, that could be.....im just starting to move on this. I did take some rough measurements and it seemed like it would work, i may have to relook at it.

i thought i got something like 17 inch tall motor and the 86 frame i have was 18 & 1/4 but it was a little while ago and those numbers maybe off

almost forgot, the engine measurement was from walsh's crf hybrid that someone bought.

im not sure the engine angle in the R would be the same as in the walsh frame, it is something i will have to look into

hrmm, for some reason i heard a CRF engine won't fit because it will hit the gas tank and the upper frame....maybe the YFZ engine is shorter????

I think a YFZ or WR or YZ450F would work in the 250R chassis. I do believe the CRF is a taller motor. I took some measurements of a YFZ motor and it came up to 16.5 tall from the bottom of the lower motor mount boss, and that was sitting how they sit in a YFZ frame. I believe you would need to fab up some motor mounts to make it work. Would the vibration of a thumper be too much for R frame? I know guys who have put cr250 and cr500 motors in stock chassis and not had a problem, but not sure about a thumper.

tcs, its gusseted, but i dont know how much that will help with torque and vibration

sounds like i need to look for a 426 motor if i wanna make this idea happen

I was thinkin a 426 also because they are less expensive than a newer 450. What about the power of a 426 compared to a 450 is there a noticable difference or not too much. Besides the Yamaha parts are easier to come by for me, I am sponsered by a Yamaha dealership.

not sure, i know a guy with one, but have not ridden it or the crf 450 hybrid

it was just going to be a project anyway, my garage is full, i also have a lt250R, so i wasnt overly concerned with the power aspect of it

ooops....not to imply the lt would keep up with it but i think the 450 may and im pretty sure the 310 would

Sorry its been so long guys, yes the 426 is a very tight fit and actually it is shorter then the crf my frame is an arens based off 89 geometry I can't remeber if the bolt went through the motor on a r or not but it does on this. any questions email me at mgsytsma@gmail.com

here is a pic I have some more closer up but they are not with me right now so it will be a couple days if you want some close ups. not sure if it was you wanting to do the stock frame conversion but all stock frame conversions I've seen the motor does not sit near as vertical like this or like a laegers frame. The way I have it mounted is near 50/50 split weight wise. I also put in a no link which made my intake so much easier. however I did have it on a stock link for over a year.

265, i would like those close ups very much whe you get a chance, also would it be possible for ya to take a measurement from the top to the bottom rails of the frame where the engine sits.

i would be using a gusseted 86 stock frame.

so is your frame made for the 250r motor and you put the yz in it? or did you buy the frame for the yz?

The frame was an arens 250r frame that was coverted for the yz

what would converting it involve? could you do it with a lonestar 250r frame?

I'm sure you could do it with a lsr frame. converting if first involves making a bushing for the rear motor mount bolt(swingarm bolt) For me I machined out my swingarm where the motor would sit becaus it is in 88 swingarm. you have to first remove the 250r motor mounts because you won't use any of them. You have to center up your motor get the chain alightment right fab motor mounts and have a really good welder. of course its not all easy, you have to find a place for the oil tank weld mounts for that as well as the electronics mine are under the frame where the stem mounts up top. And fabricating the intake system is always fun.

Did you use the stock boot from the engine to carb? If not, does your carb rub the frame rail? I am assuming that you're using a FCR carb.

The YZ engine puts the carb at an angle, and I'm trying to locate a boot that will help me center it so I'm not rubbing frame rails.

My carb boot sat against the frame rail just slightly but it was an lt500 boot that has the arch so it could go around the no link
