Why A 250r, They Say!!!!

Geese, what do you say to get a hardheaded individual that doesnt know much about atv's to realize why I wont an 88 250 r, and why it would by worth a 7 hour drive!!!!!You guesed its my parents they say I should get a newer model and that this 88 wouldnt be worth it....I tried telling them about resale value and all the facts...Can anyone help me out here?

I drove 12 hours down and 11 hours back... To pick up 250r...Almost 1500 miles... It's something i had to do in life.

When you pull up to bunch of rides with a 250r everyone turns and looks. But you can drop a ton of money if you want to...:cool: :cool:

seriously, i kill all my friends in drags, i have a quad almost no one else does, and its in great shape, and two stokes are so much more fun then 4s so worth it...

I was'nt even looking for a 400ex or a 250R when I bought my 86' 7 yrs ago. It was in a ad in the paper for $1200 for 3 days and I was the only one who called about it. drove 20 min. put a clutch and seat cover on it and was good to go. Put the first new piston/rings in it last spring and the ring gap was still good and the piston looked new. "It's a 250R kind of thing , you would'nt understand":D

There is a lot of reasons to get an R. First and foremost...they hold their value better than any bike I have seen. Second, they are much lighter than a lot of 4's so when you take that long/high jump its easier to adjust and throw around. Third, they sit really low to the ground. Fourth, thousands of after market parts that are, sometimes, inexpensive. And list goes on...

For me the decisions was that I knew I wanted to build something piece by piece, and It's easy to find parts, and alot of cheap ones.
I wanted a kick start quad after many electrical problems with my 300ex.
After riding a banshee, I knew I wanted to go 2 stoke not 4 stroke.
While the banshee's predators, 400ex's, z-400's I rode all had good to awsome power, they sat noticably higher than the 300ex. I loved how it was nice an low, the 250r will be lower than the others.
I also wanted something that I could race.

After checking out my options, tecate4, quadracer 250, banshee, and 250r, the 250r was best suited for what I wanted.

O and by the way, I have never riden a 250r before, the one that I have been building will be the first one I will have ever riden, which will make that first ride all the better, and I am not woried about me not liking it.

I envy you trx310. Don't you wish you could look into the future and bought like 5 250r's in the crate?

You just tell them to look at the starting line of every professional race, tell them to compare prices on a new top end, tell them about all the aftermarket manufactures that have focused on the TRX250R for the last 16 years and about how the prices on all those items contuine to go down. Then tell em the TRX250R 1988-1989 are the best and the fastest!

They handle better than any stock atv period! They're also the most vertisile quad w/ performance than anything Ive ever rode, wether track or trail... they do it well

A 250r just has the look , best looking atv ever IMO

They can be super reliable if maintained decently, a pretty well designed motor(for almost 20yrs old!)

There are more parts made for it and from it than any other, its what kept atv racing and aftermarket companys alive! Most parts are plentiful

No valves to adjust! or oil-filters to buy every other few rides:D

Those are a few reasons I like the trx250r

BUT... many have been wadded up, experiminted w/, welded on, beat up ,neglected (due to the fact the damn things will run unless really hammered :D :blah: ) and been thru many owners..... those are the units that can set you back sometimes..:(

If you gotta have a tricked out R... I can see your folks point, but if you can settle for a $2-3 G R...I think that might be in they're favor also, you just gotta get them to see it that way:D ..tricking them out yourself is 1/2 the fun! Other than that... you dont gotta convince me haha

NO my son and I had a great trip.... Even pick up fireworks TOO...

I don't have many more trips like that with my 17 year son...

I bought mine from a guy that said it did'nt work to good for hunting elk in CO. He said he bought it from a guy in AZ. that used it for prospecting. I put it back in it's element. It came with F/R homemade racks, whoever made them did a great job, but racks on R? What's really amazing is Honda built them so good when quads were just starting out. I think a stock ones (esp 88' 89') still looks modern except being kinda a lowrider!

I think i had more fun building my R then i do riding it. There are so many companies that make so many products for the bike, you can hook it up for any kinda riding really...

Out of all the 2 strokes ive ridden, the R i think handles the best and has a good amount of torque while still being able to rev high throughout the gears. IMO its one of the funnest quads to ride out there and you probly will never get bored with it, no matter how skilled your riding gets.
