View Full Version : Do I really need a headpipe???

I want to get a wb exhaust for my 300ex.I've heard that a headpipe will only help my top end and may actually sacrifice some low end torque. For tight trails that won't fly.Should I just go with a slip on unit?I pretty much only ride trails maybe on occasion I'll head to the dunes but not often.

You've got it pretty much right. A larger headpipe reduces back pressure thus resulting in increased mid and topend while sacrificing some low end. All i do is ride the dunes so any extra topend is appreciated. Like you said....if you like the low-end where it is just get a slip on. Even a slip on and rejetting will help with throttle response and a little power.

i think on a 300 there is a pretty good power difference on a 400 maybe not to much--my 2 cents

If you plan on doing any motor mods to your 300ex (cam piston , big bore kit) you will NEED a head pipe or your gonna cholk that poor motor to death with that tiny stock header.

That's true but I can always step up when (not if ) that time comes.
