I thought i would generate more interest for it in this forum then the forsale one.

It has absolutly NO use on it the shock is off of a 05 450R and was never ridden on. The shock was rebuilt for a 180lb mx rider on a stock swingarm. I just purchased the Elka dual rate spring kit from pappy that is brand new. I am selling it because i am thinking about using a longtravel rear end.

The shock is currently on ebay but i am willing to take it off for any exrider member just post and offer or start the bidding.

Also i forgot to add was that i was told this shock is suppose to help the "catapult" problem the stock 450 shock produces

??? Not to jump in the middle of your post but Elka does not make a rear converison nor do they do any valving for the 450r. That looks like a 400ex rear converison??. It is not installed properly and will not work. The crossover is to long and the stock black plastic staff cover is still installed this will only allow the shock to move maybe an inch before it breaks.

This is a stock 450R shock and it has been revalved by the local dealer that also does suspension work. and i have bought a dual rate elka kit from pappy that he said will fit a 450R shock

a friend of mine called elka to see if they could work his rear shock and they said they dont do that with rear shocks but recently he gave them another call to see if they would and elka told him to send it in and they can do it.............

Since you didnt post this in the for sale forum, I believe this item is up for debate.

There is no way a spring kit can eliminate the problem with the 450R rear shock.

The 450R's linkage system is way to agressive, as far as leverage goes. Combine that with a 3 inch shaft and you have a shock thats going to take you for a ride.

The only fix to this is to revise the linkage, and install a shock with a longer shaft.

BTW, it also looks like your are going to have some problems when you hit your first bump. Via the plastic shaft guard.

THe shock won't work for several reasons. the stock threaded preload device is useless on an ssd spring setup. the crossover is to long and the black plastic shaft cover will bttom out on the crossover.

Cdale I agree that a spring kit alone will not fix the 450r rear shock but disagree about the linkage. I have revalve countless 450r rear shocks and fixxed the bucking and bottoming issues while also allowing for 1 " more rear travel without changing the linkage.

i did:confused: i just checked my listing and it clearly states 400ex dual rate elka spring kit and linkage. i couldnt tell you if it will fit or work on an R shock. id suspect the spring rates are different between the two but you would have to ask someone more knowledgable then me on that.

sorry about that pappy i forgot you listed it for a 400ex.

I thought putting this spring kit on a 450R shock would help. and the dealer that i got the shock revalved by said that the valving he put it or w/e i am not at all familiar on revalving shocks said this would reduce the catapult problem.

Thats what ive been told i dont know how true it is, but have the dual spring kit on the shock would actually hurt it? what if i take that plastic guard off?
