Unfornately this happened to one of my friend's quads this weekend during a race.

The exhaust runs very close to the gas tank. The best that we can guess is that it melted the tank thus starting the fire, or the gas line leaked or came off. That has got to be a terrible feeling watching your quad burn and knowing that there is nothing that you can do about it.

Second one I've seen like that. Must be some blazin' fast Hondas passing them up.

He was running in third about 2 minutes from completing the race when this happened. He told me that he saw the flames beneath him and dove off in 4th gear. It hit a tree and went over on its side.

Yeah, he's fine. He is pretty bummed out about the whole thing. He is one of the faster quad racers in our hare scramble series in Florida. This is a major setback, but he will be back soon racing something I'm sure.

What year cannondale was that? I wonder if maybe the oil line caused this. There is an oil line that runs near the header. I have heard of them melting and leaking oil. That really sucks. Tyler Lenig's cdale did the same thing last season.
