Ok my dad is saying I won't be able to race this weekend at sully or sullen or some place and he is saying I can't even legally ride a 400ex but I know you can and he is saying no race track is gonna let a 15 yr old race. I sure hope they don't expect me to race e-ton.

At most tracks you have to be 16 to race big quads.

yup, i know what its like to drive for hours then be told not to unload it... there are a few tracks that will let you, but not many

Is it true though that its illegal to be under 16 and ride a 400ex?

yes its illegal... i know lots of kids around here that got 120$ fines by cops when they get caught on the road on a atv over 90cc...

any ama race won't let u race... but if u can find a outlaw race(private) they will... it depends on the track...

i have seen them put 80cc motors in 250rs here so they can race...

yes dont waste ur time to go and get all pumped to race...i was in the same boat as u about a month ago i was soooo pumped got my bike all ready go to sign in and the ask how old am i i go 15...their like wait they told me that they used 2 let u lie but some1 ratted them out so u gotta be 16...another bad thing is my friend said they asked for id so ur screwed. so just mod ur 400 even more till ur 16 then good luck racing.

ID?? How can you give them a form of ID when you are only 16? Your ama card doesnt have your birthdate on it.

ama sanctioned(sp??) races u must be 16 or older to race anything above a 90... and dont try to sneek in becuz if they find out ur not 16 u will not be able to legally race till ur 18 they suspend you that would suck

They can't possibly expect to to race a atc 90???? garrr I was looking forward all this winter to race. grrr I can race a cr500 bored out and ported with pipe in the open class but I can't even race a breeze if I wanted too because "its to big". Man I ride better than most older people and I'm about twice the highth of one 17yr old in my grade but he can race a bored out ported raptor and has no riding experience. Man thats dumb.

Just find a non AMA race....the local track me and chris29 rave at allows anybody on anything to race,,,

i dont want to flame or anything, but it seems like you have an ego problem, try to leave out the things like ai can ride better than most older people...for one, thats probably not true, ive just seen this so much in all your posts...but still, not wanting to start anything

whatever but when I go to the motorcross tracks and ride and we start to race and i'm usually one of the top guys there. And last weekend when i was there I was the only one clearing all the jumps and doing the step ups and stuff like that. I get beat sometimes but I usually end up putting up a good fight when I do lose but I was just trying to get to a point that the group I ride with that live in the same town as me I am a way better rider and safer and i was just trying to get the point that they can race and I can't even though i'm in better health and a safer, faster rider. btw if you don't like me just put me on the ignore list and the problems solved.

Nausty, have you tried to race Waterloo? It is closer than Sully for you and they are not an AMA track. I raced there once last year, it is an awsome quad track! :devil
I am not sure of the age limits or how they would handle it. Check out www.mxiowa.com it may have the rules at the site.
I do agree that the industry should reconsider the age and cc requirements. I do know several kids (under 16) in my area that have 400ex's and ride them with great skill, and I know some guys that are 20-30 that have no business being on a quad. It is crazy that when you are15 you are only suppose to be able to 90cc machine, but once you are 16 you are ok to ride 660 Raptor?
That ain't right. :grr

WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is NOT Illegal to ride a 400ex or Raptor or Anyhting over 90cc, if your only 14 or whatever.

It is only Illegal to Buy one form a Dealer,if your under aged. And I don't care, cops can not pull your over cause your too young to ride it. Thats the biggest load of BS, I talked to dealers and everything, and they said its just some colition (sp?) who says you have to be a certain age to buy.

They need to sell quad that Fit you. I am 6'1 220klb, and no way am I gona ride a E-Ton 80. Also, I can go buy a kx500 and hurt myself just as bad,and not have to be 16 to buy it.

Its all BS

umm i'm not calling you a liar but if they were acting like a *** and stuff like that then wasn't me. I havn't literally been in a chatroom for months and juggalo is better at wheelies than me. And I know I didn't say that.

Maybe not in your neck of the woods, but in good old NY they will / do pull kids over and ticket them for riding full size quads.. \

My buddies niece just got busted last week crossing the road on a 300EX (she's 15).. I agree that it's crazy (she's more responsible on the quad than most of the 25 year olds running around here).. but it's the way it is :(

Here in CA it is also illegal for anybody under 16 to ride a machine larger than 90cc's. Not only that...it can be illegal for a dealer to sell a full size quad to parents if it is inferred that an underage rider will be the primary user of that quad. The age limits are absolutely rediculous. There needs to be some serious investigation into changing the outdated rider age limits. There should be at least a happy medium.

i always thought that i couldnt race till i was 16 until i went to a race. yes it was ama dist. 23 and i saw a kid on a 400ex and he could be no more than 14 years old. i mean every rule i read about someone broke. one guy didnt even have any gear just a sweatshirt jeans and some gloves! they dont really care what you do there.... just show up and race.

Those pigs must be desperate for their quota's. There isn't a "LAW" that i know about riding a full sized quads. They are just RECOMMENDATIONS not laws. There was a letter about some brawd (sp?) saying she can get fired for selling a kid a quad that "too big", dirtwheels guys jumped down her throat and said that the are recommendations. That is also a load of crap about being able to ride big dirt bikes but not quads. Stupid people and their laws.
