Ok, I got a set of Elka's Recreational series front shocks for my 400ex and when I push down on the front bumper of the quad the shocks make a noise almost like something is slightly scraping the inside of the shocks. I can hear the oil moving inside them too...at least I think thats what I'm hearing. Is this normal? My rear shock (elka conversion on it) doesn't make any noise when I push down on the rear bumper....could the fronts possibly not be charged properly? Any ideas?

It just doesn't sound right to me:( ....maybe it's just me though...:o

Thanks!;)

I don't know yet, I just bolted them on the other day and won't be able to actually test them out for 2 more weeks.

Also, about the shocks....when I push down on the front bumper to compress the suspension, they don't rebound all the way by themselves, I have to lift up on the bumper to get them to return all the way. Low on nitrogen?

Anyone?

try calling up elka and ask them if this is how it is supposed to be.

That's how they are supposed to be. You don't want them to rebound completly like your stockers. That is why they are so good, because they give you a lower center of gravity. It wouldn't hurt to spray some WD on them, because you just breaking them in.

You'll be :D when you get to ride them the first time.

never spray w-d on stuff,it eats away the grease thats already there

Well, I assuming that you bought them brand new. Soo, if that's the case, then yeah, I'd say it's normal, and should go away. As for the rebound- unless you ordered them without the SSD, I'd say that's normal too. I'm betting it's prolly just a matter of the zero preload spring doing it's job there.

Ok guys, I'll just go ahead and ride it.....you're probably right, they just need some "break in" time. Thanks!:D

Its perfectly normal. Also, spray WD40 on the crossovers (plastic pieces between springs) after washing quad to disperse any water under those pieces.

Yeah I finally got to do a little ride time on mine. They did the same noise your talking about as well, but after riding on them for a little while it seems to go away somewhat. I am very pleased with this purchase. Oh by the way thanks for the pointer jeff.
