I've been riding an 01 honda 350 rancher and i've decided to get a sport bike but i have no idea of which one's right for me. I'll be doing mostly trail riding. please give me any input on anysport bike you can think of to give me some idea of what i should buy.

How big are you? If your a descent size and not a little kid look at a z400....

Some people are gunna tell you a 300ex because its your first sport quad, but you are use to riding a 300 utility and you will outgrow a 300ex pretty quick...I'd look into the z400..

Which one would you suggest is the best for mostly trail and some mud riding?

z400 and kfx are the same thing. I would go with the Z just because the 400ex doesnt have reverse, and for the average trail rider it is a nice feature...

oh, are you looking to buy brand new? I would still get the z400, sotck vs. stock the Z is better...

I don't know if this is true or not but i've been told that the 400ex has better handling then the z400.

a yamaha grizzly :D j/k probly the z its faster and better handling but if i get a 400 its gonna be the 400ex just cuz i like em better for sum reason

I think that the reason you're having trouble getting decisive responses is that both the z and the ex are _great_ quads!

Deciding between these two quads is mostly a matter of personal preference, IMO.


My responses are based on my '01ex and my brother's '03z.

IMO, they are equal in the mud.

The ex has a heavier, more "planted" feel to the steering.
The z has a lighter steering feel.

Neither quad feels unstable at speed.

Both are great trail quads.

The ex has great low end power. The z has to be a little bit up off idle before the power band kicks in, but it makes more power than the ex at mid and high RPM.

If I were deciding between the '05 z and the '05 ex, I would pick the z (even though I'm a pretty big Honda fan). Why? To me, the fast engine and light steering feel make the z more fun to run through the gears than the ex. Also, I feel that the new ex is overpriced by a few hundred dollars (because its basic design is 6 model years old).
