Here we are again at Glen Helen for round 4 of the ITP Quadcross series. This round will be on the main or as it's called the National track. This is the Track that all the big races are run on. For this weekend they have left just about the way it was for the 4 stroke Nationals a few weeks earlier, and still running it backwards.

The nice thing about Glen Helen is you can come out the night before and camp. It's great when the weather is nice, like it was this weekend. In fact if you want to get a good spot anymore you have to show up the night before.

The Pro class had 17 riders, a few less than the second round, but here on the National gate there are spots for about 20 so no heat races today... You can see as they leave the line how close to full the gate was!

Dustin Nelson gets the holeshot in moto one with Jeremy Schell right behind him. Doug Eichner was right there to along with Darrell Patton.

A they launch off the jump out of the first corner Nelson is in front followed by Schell then Patton and Ragan and in the fifth spot Tony Munio #66. Creech and Eichner got hung up in the first corner and dropped way back..

The first time around Jeremy Schell was right on Dustin Nelsons backdoor. Jeremy riding for Team Alba this year started the series on a sore foot after braking some bones in it after a bad landing while racing the Stadium series in San Diego .

Getting a good start and running in the third spot was Golden West cycles Darrell Patton. Darrell was last years White Bros. 4 stroke Champion. Since switching to a Honda this year Darrell has been struggling a little getting it to handle the way he likes. It's good to see him up front again..

Here in the fifth and sixth spots are Tony Munio and Robert McClure. This is Tonys second year in the Pro class and he looks to be doing a little better this year.

Back somewhere around the ninth spot you can see Creech coming over the hill behind Cody Roberts #24 and the #79 of Landon Hurst.

Back up front things are still the same. Jeremy staying withing striking distance of Nelson. This was looking to be an awesome battle..

Logan Holliday #70 tried his luck in the Pro class this round and seem to be doing pretty good.

Here Nelson leads Schell through the Taladega turn and as you can see they are going the opposite way this corner is usually run!

Danny Ragan was running good up in the fourth spot just behind Patton in third.

You might recognize this guy if you have ever been to or watched a free-style event. #54 is August Goebel. He was running in the seventh spot. August said he might be quitting because of School and other things going on. Racing takes a lot of time and dedication and it's very hard to do to many things at once. We wish him luck and hope he doesn't just dissapear. What would free-style be without!

Here Eichner is coming up on Cody Roberts#24. Doug was working his way to the front gradually.

Here is Dana, covered in mud, also trying to work his way up to the front..Currently he is around the middle of the pack just behind Eichner.. Right behind him you see the #29 of Jimmt Robinson.

Rounding out the top three at the halfway point was Danny Ragan #5. Now I have to start wondering where Dustin Nelson was. He never came through.

Eichner had now worked his way up to the sixth spot and was looking for more. Doug runs more desert, but enjoys a good motorcross race every now and then.

WestCoast Editor
05-07-2005, 09:34 AM
Dana getting roooosted big time by Eichner as they have now both moved around the #66. These guys were like a runaway train non stop to get to the front.. They are now running in the fourth and fifth spots.

I don't mean to just cover Doug and Dana but to be serious this was where all the real action was... They had already passed the #5 of Regan and are now setting up to get around the #35 of Darrell Patton to move into second. Yes I said second! Darrel said when they caught up to him he had nothing left to try and hold them off. Oh and Dana had also passed Eichner putting himself in second.

Eichner also got a better start this time and was running in the fourth spot right behind Dana.

WestCoast Editor
05-07-2005, 10:07 AM
Robert McClure #26 was running in the fifth with Munio #66 in sixth.

WestCoast Editor
05-07-2005, 10:18 AM
Dana had moved into the second spot but there wasn't much chance of him catching Dustin unless He had a problem..

WestCoast Editor
05-07-2005, 10:20 AM
Eichner running in fourth was about to make the pass on Jeremy for the third spot.

WestCoast Editor
05-07-2005, 10:30 AM
Darrell Patton didn't get a very good start and was having trouble right from the start. He said he felt exhausted before the gate even dropped.. Mike Machado #61 was getting ready to put him down another spot.

WestCoast Editor
05-07-2005, 10:34 AM
Tony Munio #66 and Mike Machado #61 were also about to pass Schell. Jeremy had to be having some kind of problem, but what was it? After a closer look you can see that his right rear tire looks a little funny! Yep it was going flat. Jeremy had the same problem at the 4 stroke Nationals he he got a front flat. Tough luck for Jeremy..

With a DNF in the first moto Dustin was just there to better his overall for the day since there was no way to win. He did have an impressive ride in the second moto, and yes in the first moto he said the quad was loosing power and acted like it wanted to seize up so he pulled of.

WestCoast Editor
05-07-2005, 10:42 AM
With Schell dropping back because of a flat and Dana running in the second spot it would all be determined whether or not Eichner could catch Dana and pass him.

WestCoast Editor
05-07-2005, 10:44 AM
Doug was really trying and moved into striking distance on the last lap but just couldn't get around him in time.

WestCoast Editor
05-07-2005, 10:46 AM
Logan Holliday was having a good second moto up in the fourth spot.

WestCoast Editor
05-07-2005, 10:48 AM
Darell was in eight just ahead of Schell who had now dropped all the way back to ninth.

WestCoast Editor
05-07-2005, 10:51 AM
Dana took second which gave him the overall for the day and the lead in the points for the series...

There wasn't as much action in the second moto once Jeremy started dropping back with a flat. Jeremy talks to the announcer about what happened. Turns out Jeremy was also riding with a hurt wrist that was all taped up. Even after all the bad luck you can still see him smiling. We now get a little break before the next round which will be at Race Town 395 on June 12.

Jeremy broke his arm just behind the wrist about half way through the first moto. Then the back right tire was cut due to contact in the first corner of the second moto. Jeremy should be back on the bike on May 16 and hopes all of the flat tires and broken bones are done for the rest of the year so he can spend more time preparing for the great outdoor games and the nationals next year.

When did that break happen?? And he still raced the second moto???

I hope he heals up soon - we need to keep him in the ITP series!!! Wouldn't be the same without him!!!

Jeremy hit a hole on the take-off of a jump and when he came down he almost went over the bars and broke his arm (about the half-way point of the race) As soon as he came back in from the first moto we put ice on it and then wrapped and taped it right before the second moto. Sorry no ITP next year he is going back to the big show !!! (if he can say in one piece that is)

Wow......watching that race I had no idea that had happened to him. Sucks we will lose him to the Nat's next seaons, but I'm sure it's going to be REALLY good for him!! :)

Jeremy called me the other day and I was asking him about his arm. He said that it was fractured and he had a brace on it for the first two weekes but next weekend he will be out riding again.....

Heal quick Jeremy

Great pics and thread! I was out there watching the whole race. I think I might be racing the racetown 395 race, but not the pro class:p . Race Town is an unbelievable track, jumps get large and the track is tricky, great riding there!
