i was just thinking about trying to retrofit a brake light to my 400ex and was just wondering if anyone had done this before. having a brake light is so handy on the trails (especially at night or when its dusty) and for general safety reasons.

i was thinking of buying the actuator from a banshee or KFX and modifying my tail-light or buying another one with brake light capabilities and rigging it up.

anyway, what do you guys think of the idea? any help would be appreciated.

I did this on my 400ex. Goto the auto parts store and get a light socket for an 1157 bulb. On the tail light housing you need to grind down the raised ridge flat. Then proceed to make fit which takes alittle time since you need to cut slots for the socket to thread into. If you want the front brake to activate the light you will need a switch from the clutch lever. This bolt directly to the bottom of all raw aluminum res. (400ex & 250ex) but you will need a different screw. As for the rear get a pressure switch from http://www.peakmoto.com/item.jhtml; goto electrical components, then single brake line pressure switch. This works perfect. You will then just find the ignition hot wire up under the hood at the white connector. But when wiring things up each switch will need its own hot wire. As for the light socket it has 3 wires, 2 need to be reconnected to the stock tailight wires while the third is the brakelight hot wire. Do a search on here I beleive there is more info. But I did it to mine and my buddies love it. Good luck!

Don't waste your money on that kit! Do some searches. With what I said already maybe some more info and common sense anybody can do it easily. I did it in about an hour and I only have 1 arm. Try it!

Great Job Quadworks!!! The post was very informative I think I'll try this on my 300ex. Having a brake light on the trails will help those behind me a bunch. Thanks for the info.

If you want the front lever to activate the brake light on the 300ex you will need to drill and tap the screw hole(to install the switch). Look at a 400EX or a 250EX front master to see what I mean. Give it a try! Its pretty easy once you have everything.
