Hi, i am new to the atv world, and recently purchased a 2003 400ex. I am interested in buying a 460 stroker crank and piston from dennis kirk. The company that makes the kit is called Hot Rods. Here is a link for the crank

and here is the link for the oversized piston.

Has anyone used this setup? I was planning on buying a cam too, but was wondering if i could get by with the stock carb, or would i have to buy a new one? I am trying to keep this low budget, and wondering everything i will need, so i can price everything out. Please help me...i want to build this rite the first time.

:eek2: WOW $243.99 for a piston seems a little high.

You will need a new sleeve, and you could add hd studs for insurance. A stock carb would work, but you would see a nice gain if you go with a FCR 39.

i would probably forget the stroker and just get a larger bore. this will save you time and money. a heavyduty rod is nice but it sucks to have a shop install it, plus it sucks to have to remove it and take the bottom end apart. if you keep the stock rod you can increase the bore and compression and have a good running bike for under $500. this is given you use the stock rod. it will take care of the cam, piston, boring, and gaskets. the stroker is nice for woods riding but if your into high rpm power or drag racing, i would look elsewhere.
