To Lean To Rich

What are the major signs of running to lean, and what are the major signs of running to rich. I did a search but didn't find what i needed. How do u know if u are running way too lean, cuz i dont' wanna burn my new setup up.

a general way to tell is ride your quad around for a while, then get going in 3rd or 4th gear and pull the choke. if it runs better than you are lean, if it runs worse then you are rich and if it doesn't do much than you are about right...

ok... run your quad for about 10 mins ride like you normally would. turn off, pull hte spark plug that will tell you. if it is light brown almost grey, perfect. if it is white: lean, black: rich. also if your riding give it a lot of gas, if it pops when under a lot of throttle its more than likely to rich.:cool:

k i just did that.

when sittin in nuetral, if i engaged the choke completely at an idle or with alittle throttle, it stalled, but in 3rd or 4th with alittle bit of throttle, and the choke fully ingaged, it started sputtering and stuff, almost died

that means im rich right? how badly rich am i. is it ok?

i run k&n, lid on, and a pipe, im about to switch to uni, cuz i ride in dusty/muddy places, i think i heard k&n is more free flowing, so how badly rich will i be with the uni and lid on? or could i just take the lid off

take off your lid and see how it runs.

well, if it was too rich, why did you put the choke on all the way. dont have the choke on at all and see how it runs. if it runs better i would go downa size on the main and try it out.

cuz i was doin the choke test to see how lean/rich i am, read up a few posts and youll understand

are you fouling plugs or does it bog down when you give it gas if not i woulndt worry about being a little rich

Just pull the plug and look at it. That is the best way to see how you are running...outside of getting an AFR sensor...
