Any battery bought off the shelf (especially from wallmart) will need to be charged befor use.

Not true about the charging thing, for mine at least. Just go for a big beefy battery. I have a F150 with the 4.6 and I got an Everstart Maxx and it is one solid battery, I recommend it. Remember that most truck battery's are gonna be rather large so if your mom picks up a dinky lil thing you know it wont work. Hope that helps!!

don t go over 800cca because the plates get thinner and the relibility of the battery goes down. if you live in the south a 600 cca should do fine farther up north go with a 750 or 800cca

yea, the wierd thing is. the battery will be fully charged, and it wont start without the help of jumper cables. i mean.. it will start, but it will roll over very slowly and will start, but only a few times, and then it wont roll over at all. we changed battery, same thing. alternater is good... only thing i can thing of is there is a short somewhere... any ideas?

have you ever changed the starter? or had it checked? is there corrosion on the terminals? check all wires and grounds for corrosion and loose connections.

starter was brand new when i got the truck.... last summer. but yea, i spose there could be corosion. it started this all of a sudden friday night. and now its pissin me off. i dont like throwin parts at it seein if this or that will fix it. the alternater charges when it running, so thats fine. its just the initial starting thats screwy. could be the bushings in the starter... but i have no idea. usualy when they go out the starter justs buzz's and stuff

also could be a bad battery, that has happened to me,go back to where you got the battery from and ask them to check it and run a quick charge on it.

take the starter out and bring to a gm garage and have them check the starter on a starter bench, it may have been a new starter last year but it my have been an el cheapo one, if it does not check out alright replace it.

One of my friends had a similar problem with his cavalier, he had a new battery, but there was a loose wire, it had a name I think it was for cold weather starts, and it messed up the starter, the wier came unpluged.
