Most people run the 8in champion beadlocks with the inner ring for the rear. Thats what i got and they are sweet.

Nope can't afford that yet, but I seen one that ken did to his own bike, he said it works really good and he really likes it. I might have him do it one day when I get some money.

He sold that quad he had it one too. But now he is building that yz440 in a 400ex frame so Im sure he will be doing it to it and to his crf450r that he is also puting in a 400ex frame, there going to be sweet.

Ya, ken does great work! I rode for him back in the late 90's. He built me a couple sweet R's!

What does this Upper Shock Mount do? Just give it more Rear Suspension Travel?

cdalejef
05-19-2002, 06:35 PM
It lets you run a longer shock at a more gradual angle.

Or you can also run a No-link swingarm and shock. The ride is a bit rougher though.

So how much does this Cost? Could you run your Stock Rear Shock that has been Rebuilt or would you need a whole New Rear? How do you think this would work for XC Jeff?

So I could run a Setup like the CR500 Link for a 250r?

cdalejef
05-19-2002, 06:50 PM
No, its a no link setup. Its similar to what Bill Balance was running on his Lonestar frame the last few years. The stock shock will not work. As of now you can only use Axis. We are working on getting Elka to make a shock for it.

Dave400ex
05-19-2002, 06:52 PM
Well that Setup is out of the Question. PEP doesn`t make a No Link Shock Setup or whatever it needs? Is there anywhere I can see Pictures of this?

chris29
05-19-2002, 07:03 PM
Yeah axis is the only one making this setup. You have to cut your old shock mount on the frame off and move it up 1 inch and run a axis long travel shock for the rear. It is the best rear setup avalible for the 400ex. Jeff don't you got work to do everytime Im on here so are you, Or do you just sit on the computer all day like rico and let everyone else do all the work. Hey if ya need any help Ill be happy to come over and work for ya. Where is your shop from Louisville? I think rico knows but I have no idea, Ill have to come over and see ya one day and spend a little money.

LOL....I pretty much just leave the computer on while I'm at the shop and check posts in between working on bikes, talking on the phone and shipping orders. I get home around 7pm, turn the computer on play with my daughter and check the site from time to time. I work for UPS from 12am till 4am. I sleep from 5am till 11am. Go back to the shop at 12pm and do it all over again. I race about every other weekend.

Our shop is at exit 14 off I-71 if that tells you anything. Come on out and we'll put ya to work. We'll bring the beer!!!:macho

Chris29, Are you going to do this Setup some day? It sounds really Nice, but I can`t Afford Axis Shocks.

Jeff you are really Lucky. You get to Work on Quads and be around them all the Time. Plus you get all your Parts at Dealer Cost.

I still have lots of sponsors that I worked my butt off to get. They have stuck with me all these years, if it weren't for them I wouldn't be here. Most of my quads have been built by those sponsors!

Yeah I work at UPS to from 11am to 3pm so I might have to stop by some day and show you boys how to build a race quad!!! J/k but anyways I do need to come down and check your shop out. I spend so much timing driving down to Ken's almost every week its crazy. I think I keep him in bussiness. He's a pretty cools guy, he's helped me out a lot.
WarriorMan When I can afford it, which is not anytime soon, I will be putting that setup on my rear, I also want to run houser 19' longtravel a-arms in the front and Axis long travel shocks, but man that stuff has some crazy prices.

What building do ya work in Chris? I work over in building 1. Looks like the teamsters voted to strike if it comes down to it. You need to come ride my R with the long travel Elka's even tho they will be to soft for MX.

Hopefully the picture turns out..... Otherwise, I really like the HiPer beadlock rims over the Douglas Billet beadlocks. The Douglas hold up ok, but I do have some flat spots on the inside of the rear rims of both sets of my rear Douglas rims. HiPer has an option to get the dual rear beadlocks, and for the kind of riding I do, I really like that feature.

i mean no disrespect, jeff, you sound like you have more knowlege of the game than i will ever have, but just in case anybody is wondering, a guy i know that i go to glamis with has a no link setup; it is a 250r w/ a stock frame, timmy boy no-link swing arm, and a TCS no link long travel shock. maybe it is a different story for the ex, i just thought maybe they might do the same since the R frame and the EX frame are so similar in geometry. also, maybe it was incorrect, but there was someone selling a (supposedly) long travel, no-link, PEP rear shock on ebay (don't remember if it was an r or ex). once again, this is for a 250r, i'm only assuming they might do the same for the 400ex...

This setup is a little different than the normal no-link long travel setup!
