What is everyone running for an aftermarket stock bore high comp. piston? How is the power increase and where did you get it?

we run the JE 13:1 with thermal coating

how much more than the piston do you have to replace when you change that part?

With the 13.1 compression can you still run 93 octane or do you have to go to race fuel.

You can run pump gas with the 13:1 piston, but it has to be FRESH gas (a day or two old) and you need a cam with a large amount of overlap, such as the HRC Cam. Not highly recomended but you should be able to get away with it. If I was you and could get my hands on some race gas, I would go with 13:5:1, huge gains everywhere:devil:

Where do you get the 13:8 to 1 kit and how do you like it?

Also, what are the advantages of your thermal coated piston silverfox.

the advantage is reducing internal engine temp and allowing you to run lower octane fuel.

93 pump gas or when we race we use mix of 93 and 110.

If you can get race gas, go with the Sparks 13.5:1 2-ring piston. It will help from the bottom on up. All you will need is cylinder base and head gasket. Sparks advertises 13.8:1 but it has 13.5:1 on box it came in. You will not be disappointed.:D

yea what he said that sparks kit has got to be the best for a stock bore.
when replacing you need a base gasket, head gasket and a torque wrench.

It's 13.8:1 b/c if you use the Sparks Gaskets, they are actually CRF450 gaskets which are thinner and gives you the .3 more. And it's a JE piston. I would buy the piston from Sparks, and the gaskets from servicehonda.com. It will save you a few bones!;)

I've got a Sparks 13.5:1 piston and absolutly love it!! The only thing that pi**ed me off was the fact that I thought I was getting the 13.8:1 piston that I ordered! By the end of the season I'll be getting a ViciousCyclePerformance 14:1 Hammer Headz Piston in mine.......I can't wait for it!!!!!!!!!!

1BAD4FIFTY, Read ABOVE post if you want 13.8:1 Use a CRF head gasket to get full 13.8:1. If you use TRX head gasket, you only get 13.5:1 Ask and you shall receive:D

I keep hereing about mixxers piston. What is so special about it? Anybody out there use Baldwin Motorsports 14:1 piston yet? I just purchased it and Im curious if anybody else has it. When I talk ed to Mark he said it was actually a little easier to kick over than the 13.5:1, but is a HUGE increase in power over stock

Ok, so lets say I have a JE 13:1 piston coming in the mail but I didn't know about the thermal coating. And so when I get this piston, is it a very very good idea to have it done or is it too late? Also, when the cylinder is off, is it worth it to have the outside painted or P/Ced black or coated at the same time? Just hypithetically speaking.:D

my experiance with piston coating is not good it seamed the coating wore off fast leaving alittle slop in there.
